Announcements: Important:HVEL will be relocating to a Proboard, which is currently under construction. It's been great here, hosted by runboard, and this was a great way for me to start out, but due to the more advanced, efficient, manageable, and interchangeable features, I have decided to move HVEL to there. This board will always be here, as a sort of museum to the past HVEL and the promise of the future.

The Silmarillion

I personaly love this book, and it is my second favourite, only just beaten by LotR. Who else has read this Tolkien master piece? Who's your favourite character.

For those of you who haven't read it or have read it but can't remember it very well (cough-Nurv-cough!) this is a basic (or maybe not that basic!) outline.

It starts with Eru who is also called Illuvatar creating the Valar. The mightiest of these is Melkor who was the most powerful and had the most knowledge. He desired to be called Lord and to be worshipped. He left Aman with a few corrupted Maiar. He was then captured by the Valar and held in Mandos' Hall's for three ages. During this time the first awakening of elves occured and Orome (a Vala) lead some to Valinor. The main leaders were Ingwe, Finwe and Olwe(this was Ilwe[Thingol] but he left the party and married Melian the Maia). When they reached Valinor they had peace until the three ages of Melkor's improsonment was over. He was give pardon by Manwe against the wishes of Tulkas and Orome.
The mightiest of the Noldor was called Feanor and he was the eldest so of Finwe. He created the jewels named the Silmaril's. After some time Melkor again left Aman with evil purposes. He soon returned with Ungoliont (mother of Shelob). With her help he stole the Silmarils, killed the Two Trees of Valinor created by Yavanna and slew Finwe (lord of the Noldor). Feanor cursed him and named him Morgoth, Black Enemy of the World and took an oath along with his seven sons to recover the Silmarils and overthrow Morgoth. Feanor encouraged the Noldor to leave Aman. They did and slew the Teler (another kindred of elves) for their ships. The Silmarillion tells of the Wars of Beleriand and the overthrow of Morgoth and of the Downfall of Numenor.

Erm, yes, I don't remember "The Silmarillion" very well. But I really loved reading it.
My favourite characters are Melian and Luthien.
