Re: Your favourite LOTR weapon.
And now you are here, as well! Is there a direct reference to Stong being from Gondolin? It certainly is elvish.
Yeah, Sting rules! *high fives Kev*

Re: Your favourite LOTR weapon.
No, but it was with Glamdring which was Turgon's sword.

Re: Your favourite LOTR weapon.
Turgon was Fingon's brother and the youngest son of Fingolfin, brother of Feanor. His kingdom was Gondolin and his daughter was Idril Celebrindal who married Tuor.
Glamdiring was found along with Ochrist and Sting in the Hobbit in the Troll's Cave, and Elrond confirmed that Glamdring was Elrond's sword.

Re: Your favourite LOTR weapon.
Wow that's totally brilliant! How did I forget Elrond confirmed that? Where is it?
You really seem to know the Sil well, I'm impressed. (I've only read it once!)

Re: Your favourite LOTR weapon.
Elrond confirmed it in The Hobbit and I've only read the Sil twice but I'm reading it for a third.

Yeah. He translates the moon runes for Thorin and Gandalf.

Re: Your favourite LOTR weapon.
Oh of course! Now I remember, and I found the quote easily:
"These are not troll-make. These are old swords, very old swords of the High Elves of the West, my kin. They were made in Gondolin for the Goblin-wars.They must have come from a dragon's hoard, or goblin plunder, for dragons and goblins destroyed that city many ages ago. This, Thorin, the runes name Orcrist, the Goblin-cleaver in the ancient tongue of Gondolin; it was a famous blade. This, Gandalf, was Glamdring, Foehammer that the king of Gondolin once wore. Keep them well!"
- Elrond, p. 49, The Hobbit

Re: Your favourite LOTR weapon.
How do you think that they got there then Nurv? If they were from Gondolin.
