Welcome! If you are not already a member, please join our board! Read the rules before posting, then go post a thread with your username as the title in the Mumak Inn. Thank you for taking the time to visit us!

Please (and this is to all members) refer constantly to the Announcements marquee (directly below), The Hidden Valley Telegram Forum (News), and the rules forum for updates. Also, be sure to visit the Hidden Village Website every now and then (no reason). If you need help, have any questions, or you wish to donate several million dollars to us, or if you have trouble posting, send a PM to me or fill out a help form.

Announcements: Important:HVEL will be relocating to a Proboard, which is currently under construction. It's been great here, hosted by runboard, and this was a great way for me to start out, but due to the more advanced, efficient, manageable, and interchangeable features, I have decided to move HVEL to there. This board will always be here, as a sort of museum to the past HVEL and the promise of the future.

I think it would be fun to play an RPG in the style of writing a group story. (With a group story, each author writes a bit more of the story in their post. They continue where the last person left off, leaving a continuous plot.)

This style could apply to any subject of RPG. At the beginning, each person would post a detailed description of their character.

Then, when you post, you could use all the characters if you wanted. But you have to stay true to the description posted by the creator.

There is, of course, no godmodding or other such nonsense. emoticon

Godmodding - saying your character is all-powerful.
Bunnying - saying your character automatically defeated an opponent or dodged/scored a hit.

I imagine this sort of RPG would still need a GM.

That about says it.

Why thank you for stikifying this! It's worth noting that there are other ways to play that are also fun.

In my experience, playing an on-line RPG like you would at home leads to confusion (and lack of dice) but it is still fun to control one character and interact with others, and you don't know what they're going to do...

EDIT: Incidentally, I called the thread "One Way to play an on-line RPG". emoticon

Yeah maybe the name should be changed as it isn't the only way to play.

Yup. Exactly. If we knew some of the more complicated ways we could put them too.
