Announcements: Important:HVEL will be relocating to a Proboard, which is currently under construction. It's been great here, hosted by runboard, and this was a great way for me to start out, but due to the more advanced, efficient, manageable, and interchangeable features, I have decided to move HVEL to there. This board will always be here, as a sort of museum to the past HVEL and the promise of the future.

Best Movie Character

Who do you think fitted in with their character best in the movies.

I think it was Sam. He was loyal to Frodo and depicted his character perfectly. What do you guys think?

I completely agree. Sam is my favourite character in the books, and he was portrayed brilliantly in the movies. IIRC he didnt even have any dumb lines unlike many unfortunate members of the Fellowship. Sean Astin did an amazing job in this role. Despite the extremely difficult role, he was humorous, heart-warming, and very moving.

I also thought Théoden, Eowyn, and Eomer were excellent. Rohan represents! emoticon

Gandalf was awesome until ROTK, but his awful portayal then wasn't really Sir Ian McKellan's fault. (He smacked Denathor upside the head with the utmost dignity. emoticon )

I agree as well. Sam, though not even close to my imagination, was the best in the two movies I saw.

Aragorn was my favourite character in both but Sam fitted best with the book.

I also agree with Nurv. Theoden, Eowyn and Eomer were done extremly well. The only thing that annoyed me is that omer was banished not imprisoned which cut Erkenbrand out of the Film.

Personally i think the character(s) that fitted the book best in the movies was Gollum/Smeagol. PJ got across the moral dilemma that Smeagol was having trying to convince this evil side of him (Gollum) to be faithful to the promise he made to Frodo, everything from the looks, personality, even down to the voice was exactly how imagined them to be, great stuff.

I thought Arwen was closet to the book! *everyone dies* Just kidding! emoticon

I agree, Gollum was brilliantly done. I still think Sam was the best, but there was some very interesting scenes around Gollum. This is one character where a made up scene for him wasn't totally messed - I'm thinking of the transformation as he crept into the Misty Mountains. Some of the ROTK stuff was odd.
