Smith River 7-7-2006
- Guided Trip VA Smith River, Dr Jim & Martha Kaley, Greensboro, NC. The best weather day of the year, no humidity, no wind, perfect temps and lots of rising fish. We caught probably somewhere around 20 altogether, give or take a few, lots of nice fish busted off on the take. Martha and Jim both caught a good number of browns, a nice rainbow, virtually all our fish were caught on a Jeffs Beetle, and also Jim had one take, a larger fish that ate a size 20 Henryville Special. Martha had the big fish of the day, rainbow that was around 16-17", it also ate a Jeff's Beetle. The river is in excellent shape despite all the heavy rain of late, the dry fly fishing with terrestrials and small dries is pretty good right now and should continue. In the am there are some sulphur spinners on the water, size 18.
