Re: Total Wipeout... France

There are something like 25 countries doing it now, with all but the US version filmed in Argentina.

I read somewhere it takes two days to film each episode, so they're probably both in use pretty much all year.

That in itself may be a problem when it comes to updating the course - the US had months of downtime to make changes, but the Argentina course would have to be upgraded over a much shorter period - though I guess they'd time any changes so at least one course was always operational.

There must be at least a fortnight sometimes when one of the courses isn't being used. I'm sure that's be more than enough time to update the course.

All the new stuff would be built off site, or on site but away from the courses anyway, so they'd only need to bring all the stuff in and stick them in place. It's the digging out the new pools that'd take the time.

It's possible though. Using Takeshi's Castle as an example, they were always building new games while they were filming episodes around them.

It would be interesting to know how long they take to change the courses in the US from episode to episode.

I imagine changing the qualifier could mean a days break from filming (heck, that might explain why the BBC didn't change much) - especially this season with bigger obstacles, although they always seem to have something set up in the mud and pool at the beginning, so I guess they do both as it's easier to tweak the final obstacle.

Changing the Wipeout Zone though to something completely new could take a lot longer - two weeks might not be long enough.

Here's someone's run:

Looks exactly like Washout. The editing anyway, with having to watch them swim through the mud - that's something you hardly get in America (not that I notice anyway).

Actually, there's only two replays, which makes it better than Washout.

They DO have some really cool graphics though. These should be the second official set, for countries that don't want to use the proper ones for some reason. I like the mud and water splash-wipes, and the little horn at the start is funny.

A different idea with the Balls - taking 20 seconds off their time if they cross them. That gives them more of an advantage to trying to cross them slowly, rather than just bouncing off the first and swimming over. Although that way you would get less Wipeouts.

Nice to see they turned off the water on the ramp too, in this episode.

Don't agree with the Big Balls advantage - as you say, that gives them more of an incentive to take them cautiously, and we all know Wipeouts are much more fun.

All tactical too IMO - obviously if I ever ran the course I would deliberately fall off the first ball in the hope of swimming to the next stage faster! emoticon

A couple more clips now on the M6 page on the Daily Motion site, including a glimpse at a new Dizzy Dummy obstacle - basically a load of parallel logs, having to leap from one to the next.

I think I've seen that in the Turkish version (the logs in DD).
At least they're going with different things anyway, not like their namesake's obsession with certain Tables.

A couple more promos: http://www.dailymotion.com/M6/1

Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=114884483676&ref=ts

And the official site: http://www.m6.fr/emission-total_wipeout/

And here is how the show works:
http://translate.google.com/translate?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.m6.fr%2Femission-total_wipeout%2Fles-epreuves.html&sl=fr&tl=en&hl=en&ie=UTF-8

The usual 24>12>6>4 process, but then before the Wipeout Zone the 20 eliminated contestants get a second chance (on the Sweeper by the looks of it) to win a place in the Wipeout Zone, with 5 in the final.

So that suggests 8 extra podiums.

Some great photos on the site too, along with more videos.

Just watched the clips online and seems the second Sweeper round still has 12 people, and is basically the Crusher. So it must be the 2 Dizzy Dummy losers, 6 Sweeper losers and 4 best losers from the Qualifier.

Anyhow, loads of clips online and like us they have intros into every round - more in the Wipeout house style. All looks rather good.
