Skull's Wedding Gift
Part One: Free, high speed, massive storage, do whatever you like webspace for as long as you want it.
I finally got a job (it pays about $13/hr to start, up to $15-16 per hour after 3 months... at Staples no less) with full time, I start this monday. So here's the deal... I'm putting up my website finally (since I can finally pay for it). But I'm only gonna use about 10%, if even that, of the service I'm getting... so Mara-chan, among several other webcomics stuck on keenspace, are being offered free, use however you want (uploads, downloads, forums, pornography, whatever, just know that all legal responsibility will be your own, and you will have your own ftp)
The website is a several GB/s transfer rate server, 300GB total storage (I don't think I'll ever hit that alone, or even come close, but if we do, I have no problem shifting to an $80 monthly service, as opposed to $40, that provides 2TB of storage, 15 GB/s transfer, and unlimited transfer per month)
I will be providing a backup service as well, just in case something goes wrong, although that won't be active for about 3-4 months from now (when I build myself a computer, I'm loading it with about 2TB of storage space, plus 3 additional, website backup drives of 320GB, for that purpose only) I would like it though if those I'm playing free host to maintain their own backups if possible, since mine will probably be a bi-monthly backup, rather than a weekly or sooner. Plus I will have to backup via the net, and the free-loaders (gotta love em) will have the files on their computer for their section.
When I mean, do ANYTHING, I mean, have paid ads, sell stuff, have a store, have a fanart section where people can upload their pics, have video clips, flash videos, your comic, forum with all the works (I can point you to far better free forum programs than runboard, that you install as a folder in your ftp, then link it, rather than using a third party host like runboard)
You may also have up to 10 2GB e-mails (for the use of the webcomic creators and their closest friends, preferably).
The only catch is that I will require a small text reference at the bottom of each page thanking Otakus of Doom Entertainment for their free hosting, as well as a text link to our main page of www.otakusofdoom.com (I didn't link cause its not going up until my second or third paycheck, but I'm gonna be designing it before hand, and testing the barebones on my Comcast provided webspace, so I would like to know who wants to take up my offer ASAP)
Part 2: As yet to be undertermined gift, approximately $50-60 (or less) based on your request (I'm talking to you Joe and Dottie)
Now, if you are interested at all in my Part 1 gift, you have my e-mail (the gmail one), or you can reply to this (I'll recieve automatic notification).
If only you weren't out of state, I'd just tell you to call me... oh well. Just so you know, I'm almost positively playing host to The Hero's Handbook and the creator's twin sister's comic, Nowhere U. I may possibly play host to Thatguy, and there are a few other comics I'm gonna ask, all of which are stuck on keenspace. I'm not offering to those who have webspace, or are on keenspot (because keenspot essentially provides the same service with only a little extra hassle)
I might even be willing to design your webpages for you... I just gotta dust off the Java and HTML books, and refresh my memory. I do have Dreamweaver, so I can do most of the work there, but I always prefer to clean up the code as much as possible (Dreamweaver is pretty messy when it makes code)
Well... that was pretty much it... unless you wanna drive all the way to Elk Grove and buy a printer or something (working at Staples)
Oh, and last bit, even though its unrelated... my business will begin taking applications for future hire for writers, artists, corporate staff, webmasters, the whole mess. (By writers and artists I'm refering to the entire staff involved in creating a manga/comic froms scratch, up to the point where it goes to the printer).
Our preference is japanese(ish) styles, since it is the 'Otakus of Doom'. Although I am most definitely not closed to more American, European, or even abstract forms of art (I certainly loved Abenobashi and FLCL, which are extremely abstract for an 'anime' company)
Check it out... even if you don't think you can write, but you have some 'idea to rock the ages' sort of thing, we do that sort of submission... and we are very honest about who came up with it. However, the royalties you'll be recieving as the source of inspiration won't exactly be impressive... we always prefer the idea man to be the writer, or otherwise a key player in the creation.
That means you Joe, and Dottie... we won't hire beyond our current 3 writers and 1 artist (possibly a second we're looking into... artists are expensive and usually already working) for about a year AFTER our first sales product goes up... which may or may not be before Christmas (we certainly hope to have AT LEAST a buttload of t-shirts in stock by then... although our dream is to have the first volume of our 2 comics currently in progress, Ten Go Sei and Digital Panic. I'm writing Ten Go Sei, and Digital Panic is one of the other writers/co-founders. Our third writer/co-founder is still trying to figure out what he wants to write... but be assured it will be very morose and deep.)
So you'll be getting:
Sean "Watcher": Ten Go Sei (Romantic comedy, indirect study of human nature, action)
James "Collector": Digital Panic (Parody, romantic comedy, slapstick, cheesy alien badguys, action, sci-fi) If you like parodies, or sci-fi humor... you're gonna love this. This is a series for the American Otaku, and the parodies will not only include anime, but games, both console and PC, as well as TV shows, and possibly other things.
Kevin "Reader": ? Currently mulling over various ideas (or so he tells me... Ten Go Sei was originally my idea, and together we started working it into a manga, however my 'bubbly' attitude and his somewhat morose/Shakspearian attitude ended up with too many idea clashes)
What are the nicknames you ask? Well, I generally dislike manga/comics (reading them) with the Bleach manga being the only known exception to date (not that I haven't read quite a few), and I don't see any point in collecting (I have ONE Magic User's Club poster, cause my friend bought it for me last weekend at Fanime Con cause I said I liked it)
Thus I am "The Watcher"
James prefers to 'have' everything, so he's "The Collector"
Kevin just loves to read manga... thus he's "The Reader".
Rant done, I'm being kicked off the computer.

Re: Skull's Wedding Gift
Thanks for the kind offer, but at the moment we're pretty happy with the way Keenspace works (99% of the time). Thanks though, and if Keenspace starts dorking us over, I'll look to you guys first.
As for Part Two... hmm... I should let Dot handle that one. I'll talk to her later about it.
They START at Staples out there at $13/hour? WTF?!? course, that's Cali, isn't it? Like $.90 for a can of coke and $3 a gallon of gas. Geez.
Let me know what store you're at. There's ways to contact other stores and such thru the system. ^^;

Re: Skull's Wedding Gift
WHAT???? $0.90 for a CAN????
Nah, $.25 dude, cept at schools and malls, where its $.50, and some rare places (like, middle of nowhere malls, shopping centers, richy neighborhood schools) its $.75 for a can.
20 oz bottles are $1 cept for government buildings and some malls, where they are $1.50 or sometimes $2.00
Gas for me is $2.33/gallon (for regular) and $2.78/gallon (the highest premium stuff) through Shell (even less cause I have a Shell card)
ANYWAY... I'll tell you what I told the creator of Thatguy... you have until this Friday to make your official decision, if it still remains no, then I'll contact one of the other comics which are next in line.
Just for you to mull over:
- We host you for free (like keenspace)
- We provide autoupdate and format software (like keenspace, but specially setup for you, so that the comic need not be on your main page[s])
- We will put together your webpages for you (you must provide the art and description of the page)
- If we do go down, it won't ever be for more than an hour (in the case of server reboots) because it is a business plan... so the servers providing our webspace are constantly monitored)
- You can have up to 10 2GB e-mails with your (free) webspace (for you, close friends, and any associates on the comic)
- If you do 3 or more updates each week (not necessarily spread out, but at least 3 each week) we will pay for your domain registration (its a big whopping $10 a year... but you know that)
- We will let you sell stuff via our company store with no cost to yourself.
- We are setting up a semi-automatic page maker program, which will let you highly customize your pages in a very quick time using a check box and scroll menu system, letting you quickly position and edit the things on a page without having to have any special knowledge. Granted, the program will only allow for a few things (placement of images, setting up of links/buttons using images or text... basically everything you need unless you want to embed some really advanced stuff).
- We will provide you with (if necessary) forum software, tagboards (both traditional top down, and sequential like a forum) hosted locally on the webserver, so there is no 'could not connect to www.tagboard.com/blahblah' errors.
- Don't forget the free candy... (j/k)
That's all that pops into my head at the moment, but I think that's everything for now. All in all, you're looking at a very valuable setup here... basically free webspace and free webmaster services... however, I understand keenspace provides a lot of these services automatically. I had a keenspace site for a short time, and it only took me 3 days to become extremely frustrated with the failabilities of their auto-updating system.
Anyhoo... if you don't e-mail me with a 'yes' by Friday, I'll assume its no.
