Re: Final Fantasy XI
I hated when they looked the same but had different power levels. Kept forgetting to check before attacking.
One bat was easy level 2 fodder... another took me out (lvl 9 at the time) with one shot.
BAH!

Much later on "Too weak to be worthwhile"'s could kill you in a few shots. The game was extremely un-balanced.

Re: Final Fantasy XI
White mage girls get free stuff? Really? Now I know what class to pick if I get it. ^^;
I heard armor and such is really expensive, tho...

Re: Final Fantasy XI
Ah yes.. Equipment... You don't really buy armor and weapons, you rent them. The only place to get them is at an auction, and you have to pay outrageous prices for them.. When you're done with the armor/weapon, you just put it back on auction and hope it sells for the same price you paid for.
Money is extremely hard to get as well. The only way to become rich is to camp rare monsters and hope they drop a rare item.
Which brings me to my next point... The shared servers. It wasn't fair to stick newbie North American players with the veteran Japanese. They kept an eye on how we were leveling up, and when we reached a new equipment, they'd charge tons of money for it. Square really should have seperated the servers... You might even see the word "gaijin" directed at you.
And yes, it does effect gameplay. The servers are located in Japan, so they go down for maintenance during peak North American times, and monsters will actually spawn faster for the Japanese since they're closer (a split-second faster, but that makes all the difference in the world, trust me).

Re: Final Fantasy XI
You always get a mixed bag.
I've had quite a few nice people help me out when I got in trouble, and they were Japanese.
Of course, it never hurts to use an icon of a hot girl. ^_-
But it is true for ANY game that if people start at different times, you'll get LARGE variations in experience. Japan started a while before the US, the PC started before the PS2...
I was on the PS2. There were lots of people... US people who were biased because of all the 'newbie PS2ers coming on'. Well, they didn't expect some of us to have keyboards and mice to play with so we were able to keep up. So I don't doubt there's some people out there using the system to screw 'newbs' in any form.
BUt then there are some old-timers who enjoy helping out new people.

Re: Final Fantasy XI
Yeah there's always your random assortment of people. I find it really funny how everyone treats female characters nicely. I also noticed Taru's were always being treated nicely, and Galkan's were extremely friendly (to such a degree it scared me).

Re: Final Fantasy XI
Yeah, fanboyism runs rampant online. Anything that COULD be female gets treated better. Lil Tarus all look like chicks... and are mostly mages, so they get treated nicely too.
Hmm... may have an idea for a strip in there somewhere...

Re: Final Fantasy XI
Everyone treated me nicely even though I was a male Taru Dark Knight, except later on as I mentioned before. Right at that lvl 40 mark people became less focused on faboyism, and became extreme elitists and you had to play their way.
I do remember a female Ranger that everyone would always pick, even though she ALWAYS got her party killed, and yet people still picked her.
