Fable?

Hey, has anybody esle in the forums played Fable yet? And if you have, what do you think?

It's a great game, and everything, but it's so terribly short, alot more could have been and should have been done with it, and the credits are at least 9-10 minutes long. For game that was in development about 4 years, (or so I've heard, dont think thats true), It really coulda been better.

Yeah, I heard the buzz of people expecting a lot then having the reality of the game hit them hard. They were expecting an RPG got something more linear. They got online-type elements in an offline game (that don't work offline).

I'm gonna sell my Xbox to my friend... Nothing's coming out for it that I care for.

Same. Halo was pretty average. Didn't interest me at all. Rented it when I got my Xbox a few months ago and I played it for 2 hours then never played it again. No way am I gonna try Halo 2.

As for Fable, that's the reason I bought the Xbox. It's a great game, and the people that complain about the game being short, well they aren't gamers. They just play thru the game once, and try to finish it as quickly as possible. If you play it more than once, and try different things, then the game will never end. Why buy a game if you're only gonna play it once ?

i never played fable , for one i don't have an xbox. But i have to hand it to the concept artists. the picture they used to advertise the game was anything but an eyesore, i think that 's what made everybody want the game, whether you knew it or not.

I think thats a good point...

I mean, I played it, I did of bunch of extra stuff, we returned it(rental, didnt want to shell out fifty when halo 2 is on the way) and then we got online. Yes, the concept stuff was wonderful, but after you've been zooming around for a bit, you find all this stuff, mainly on foriegn fable sites, of characters and things that didn't make. It all looked so great.

Fable was given the hype that Beyond Good & Evil shouldve gotten.

By the way, If you read the Game Informer that gave a first glimpse of fable you can see they cut some parts out.

And a note on the credits. They HAD a SECTION that listed the names of children the staff had while making the game. SAD!

The credits were brutal. You HAD to watch them if you wanted to play around after.

As for hype, all I knew about the game was you started as a kid, and you grew up. I don't really pay attention to hype, cause if you pay attention to it, you're bound to be let down somehow.

Re: Fable?

So nobody here is a Peter Molynuex fan like me eh?

Nobody played Populous, Populous 2, Black & White, or any of the many other games he made?

Peter Molynuex founded about half the major companies in the PC gaming industry until about 5-6 years ago when he founded Lionhead Studios. The reason for so many is that every time they release 2-3 best selling games, he was shelved as Main Project Director, but he wanted to do hands on work, not play baby sitter.

He is the creator of the 'god game' genre, and Fable was his baby. Lionhead Studios (Creator of Black & White, and soon Black & White 2, what could be described as a super-awesome mix between that game Seaman and Populous, although thinking of those games will give you a bad perspective) has about 6 subsidiaries it spawned, and each is creating a highly anticipated game.

One of these subsidiaries worked on Fable for about 4 years (that's true) but it was intended solely for PC as a 3-5 disc game, until Microsoft made Peter Molynuex and Lionhead Studios filthy rich, and moved the release date of Black & White 2 up probably 2 years with their extravagant purchase of the Fable title and its producing sub-company.

They did the same thing with Free Lancer, which was intended as a living world 4 disc PC game, already completed and 2 months from release, but then chopped down to a 1 disc Xbox/PC game because Microsoft bought them out... I don't know if it ever even made the Xbox.

Fable's original intention was to do what Free Lancer almost but thanks to Microsoft, failed to do... create the first true 'living world' game. Where every single NPC lived out his/her life, had children possibly, dated, had complex emotions, reacted realistically, aged, grew, developed and lost skills, changed in appearance, and eventually (either naturally or forcefully) died.

They would buy and sell houses, towns would grow or shrink, develop or regress... it was going to be incredible. It was about 2/3 done when Microsoft got it and ordered complete re-developement... already it was at 3 cd production point, and Xbox can only do one since Microsoft rejected the 'load games like a PC' feature for the Xbox (ever wonder why it has an 80gigabyte HD in it when its basically impossible to have that many saved games?)

I was really looking forward to that... instead, I'm now happy Microsoft shunned another of Lionhead Studios' subsidiary's work called 'The Movies'. I haven't recently checked the planned release, but I think it was some-time around the same time as Black & White 2 (This year!).

The Movies is a super awesome sim type game, where you start out as a super-low budget, unknown director, and have to hire and train nobody actors then direct the movie. It has an incredible editor for writing amazingly dynamic scripts, and you can give a tremendous wealth of commands and critiques to your actors and technical staff, meaning you can literally copy & paste Romeo and Juliet, and with good enough actors, do a perfect recreation (and record it and show it off to other people online) or you can make it into a high flying Kung Fu + Mystical Powers action movie with awesome special effects, car chase scenes, and nuclear explosions... all because YOU are the director.

I'm seriously looking forward to this... its a movie and sound editor as well as a game, and the AI is the most advanced yet to exist in a sims game (Lets just say, Sims 2 is like a suckling babe... although anyone who's played Black & White, a 5-6 year old release, won't be incredibly impressed with Sims or Sims 2 AI)

They are doing several others... the website for the Black & White titles is B&W Site and the website for Lionhead AND its subsidiaries, with projects listed as well as details, screenshots, and interviews is Lionhead Studios

Take a look!

Re: Fable?

I used to play Populous and Pop2 back on my old Atari ST. They rocked. I'd love to see a high-res version (without all the bloat current games get). Back when his co was 'Bullfrog'.

Haven't played the others. Kinda haven't played PC games much lately.

Oh, the Xbox only has an 8 or 10gb drive, not 80 (unless it's hacked), and the 10's still only read as 8's.
