Omake 84 - discussion
Hey, Joe. Hey, Dottie. Long time fan, first time post.
..thought I'd comment about the discussion included with Omake 84, in which artist Dottie is taking some time off from the comic.
Not a bad idea... a regular webcomic is a lot of work, more than most people realize. I published "SnowBuni" as an online webcomic for a year, and eventually decided that the effort would eventually kill me.
Here's my suggestion... Joe, you need to develop your art skills so that you can trade off with Dorothy. I'm not kidding; it will go a lot easier if you both can do the art chores.
You'd have different styles, but that's not a bad thing... I remember the days when I was buying the collected editions of 2000 AD featuring Judge Dredd, and Mike McMahon and Brian Bolland were trading chapters of the MegaCity lawman. In my opinion, the conflicting artstyles added to the depth of the continuity.
...also, you could solicit readers for guest strips and stories.
At any rate, take it easy, rest up, and return to cartooning when the artistic muse is feelin' good.

Re: Omake 84 - discussion
Well... my artistic ability sucks. That's why for the omakes (and a few fill-in comics) I just re-used Dot's art.
If you want to see how 'well' I can draw, check out our first omake:
http://marachan.keenspace.com/d/20040218.html
Now I DID take architecture classes back in HS, so I can do stuff like that and can handle perspective and all... I just can't draw people. Especially hands.
I was thinking of doing some fill-in comics like that anyway... we'll see how it goes.
Dot laughs when I draw comics... but I don't think it's because of the writing, if you know what I mean. ^_-
oh, and welcome to the board. It's quiet right now, but that's expected with the con-season lull.

Re: Omake 84 - discussion
And we gotta remember that Dot's in school, and with this being the end of a term, there are projects & deadlines galore competing for her time...and sanity.
Maybe Joe could treat us to a Bunny & Mara version of "Stick Figure Theater."

Re: Omake 84 - discussion
Tyra Banks retired from modeling recently, but she's still gonna host that show. Oh well. At least she hasn't been busted for drugs (a la Kate Moss), and she looks healthy instead of stick-person, though, that doesn't help your "Stick Figure Theater" at all, does it?

Re: Omake 84 - discussion
Who needs to model when they have their own TV show where they get to be in front of the camera 1/2 of the time and fly around the world with the careers of 14 young women on their hands?
Have you seen the show though? I think they HAVE to mention the name Tyra at least every 7 minutes (not including commercials). Maybe next season they'll be forced to wear "We want to be Tyra" T-shirts.
