posticon Otakucon/Kunicon mini-summary

Ah, Otakucon/Kunicon.

apperantly, a good two word summary for is Knife, back. And here are some reasons why.

Registration and such.
First off, WE DO NOT NEED OUR PICS ON CON BADGES!! It's true. for people who registered for the weekend pass, you needed a picture for your badge. It caused problems for people who didnt preregister. People had to wait in line to get their picture for the pass, then wait for the picture to be printed onto the badge. about a four hour wait. But I had pre registered, so it was ok for me.

Events.
Lord knows I didnt go to every event, but from what I've heard from other guys who went, almost every event started late. Also, apperently they tried to stuff so many events into it, they had alot of promblems. Although the ramen eating contest sounded cool.

Events/Panels I went too.
I went to the Select Start (video game band) Concert. It rocked so much! They did alot of amazing game music, which included mario, zelda final fantasy, and a bunch more music from a bunch more games.
I went to one panel called "Chino Eye for the Otaku Guy". A funny thing where an asian guy named Chino went about instucting (otaku) guys on what they can do to make themselves better people. Not to mention more attractive. (EDIT: If you went to the metrocon anime human chess match, the kid who was ash made a complete moron of himself in front of the whole room, but he earned 5 bucks while doing it, so it wasnt such a bad trade-off. :P)

Game Room/LAN Room.
All I have to say, that the rooms were the best on friday. Saturday and Sunday, they were just so full and so disorganized that they sucked.

Dealer's Room.
Otakucon/kunicon had a bretty big dealers room, I think about half the size of the megacon dealer room. I didnt go in much, since I didnt have any money.

Artist's Alley.
The artists alley was okay. there were two-three tables that had really cool stuff. But then you know, there were a bunch of tables showcasing Hentai/Yaoi/Yuri stuff. Ugh.

Thats kinda my mini-summary for Otakucon/Kunicon. There main problems were bad planning, bad badge ideas, to much time walking from one place to another, problems finding events, a very bad dance, (apparently only 20-25 people showed up for it) and other things.

Hate it or love it, but I hated it.

But Joe, you have customers everyday at work that you can complain about.

Anyway, I just read Maboroshi's con report, and he really ripped them a new one. I'm also glad we didn't go.

i was just admiring all of the pictures he took to show you just how much the con sucked like this http://www.risingsun.net/gallery/otakucon/cosplay/source/otakucon-1637.shtml and this one http://www.risingsun.net/gallery/otakucon/friday/source/otakucon-0123.shtml

http://www.risingsun.net/gallery/otakucon/dealers/source/otakucon-1072.shtml and this..

he's telling you he woullda rather been here http://www.risingsun.net/gallery/otakucon/friday/source/otakucon-0313.shtml
again don't you wish you where here..

http://www.risingsun.net/gallery/otakucon/saturday/source/otakucon-1894.shtml

another thing i noticed was before otakuni con it said at the bottom of mabs site "official photographer for Metrocon and Otakucon" it only says Metro now. But that may be because the con moves around and he can't get to all of them.

Well, I dont think that mab wanted to be affiliated with otakucon/kunicon after knowing how much it stank.

And besides, it officialy became kunicon before the con started.

I have a feeling that many other people don't want to be associated with the debacle either. Fan's View Kevin Lillard also wasn't pleased though his wording wasn't as harsh as Maboroshi's. I wonder how far the criticism will go especially if the organizers really put on several more events.

Kevin did get say that he didn't see a point in posting the winners of the contests... and he ALWAYS posts the winners.

In fact, it's usual for Kevin to do these multi-page layouts of his pictures from cons along with various commentary (usually as a straight report), and then his personal feelings at the end. He usually posts quite a bit of text on his site for the cons. It's rare to see negative comments in the main posts.

Of course, it's also rare for Mike to post much of anything from a con besides maybe a paragraph and a billion pictures.
