Megacon '05
Attention all those in the Southwest US Megacon '05 is fast approaching with only two months to go.
This year's highlight is the Jrock band Pysco Le Cemu, popular for their unique Visual Kei style and thrasing sound. Preforming three concerts in the US this year, one of which at Megacon '05 on Sunday.
And let's not forget the GIGANTIC dealers room propably the largest in the Southwest and surely the largest in the state of Florida.
As usual the hotels are friggin' expensive since the con takes place at peak tourist season. Originally I had booked the Crown Royal at over $100 a night for one room. Instead I chose to lower my standards and bring friends so I ended up with two rooms at a much cheaper hotel.
Anyone else going?

Re: Megacon '05
Wow, PLC at Megacon. Neato. That should get a few j-rock fans excited. I should probably check out the Megacon site to see who else will be a guest. We'll be driving from our house again and parking at the shopping center down the street.

Re: Megacon '05
Who, me? We didn't use the convention parking but went to the garage attached to the shopping center that has the now-defunct FAO Schwarz on the corner (giant teddy bear, etc.) It wasn't super close, but it wasn't that far either. I suppose if it had been raining, we would've been much more annoyed. I forget how much it cost. Couldn't have been bad because we're cheap!

Re: Megacon '05
Yeah, well, I have the best parking situation for that... I just won't go.
But seriously, sounds like downtown Sacramento (tiny streets, no parking signs everywhere, rare parking complex, long long walks to any big event or bussiness... and its a freaking city too)
So it coulnd't have been or probably won't be fun to do the whole 2 hour parking search thing...
Anyone who has had to go somewhere in Sacramento on a busy day for an event knows to get there 2 hours BEFORE the event starts with a sack-full of quarters so you get a nice all-day parking spot. Then you hope nobody tries to parallel park their oversized truck or SUV when it obviously won't fit in the damn spot....
Sorry, SUVs have never cause me anything but trouble and headaches. Althought SUV drivers are just as dangerous and stupid in smaller vehicles...
Maybe SUVs have some sort of unlimited cast 'touch of idiocy' enchantment in their driver seats?

Re: Megacon '05
It's not as bad as any downtown area. It's just a massive convention center surrounded by hotels and touristy things. Finding parking isn't that hard; it's just when we want to get picky about distance and price, we narrow the choices. We don't have to wait around for hours for someone else to give up a spot and then spend the rest of the day running outside every 15 min. to feed a meter.
However, it does make one wonder why the builders didn't design underground parking for the entire facility. Could be that the ground itself (too sandy or soggy, etc.) wouldn't allow it, but it sure would've been nice to have shady and cool parking built-in.

Re: Megacon '05
Oh man, small towns grown big take the cake (like Elk Grove, where I live)
Our oldest section of town (with mostly original buildings) is called 'Old Elk Grove' by the bulk of inhabitants... several new bussinesses are buying out the old ones, and even rebuilding... so it gets a lot of traffic, particularly that of teenagers (theres a music shop, a couple cafe type places, a good chinese food place)
The parking is horrible... the only real parking lots is one that used to be 5 bussiness es that were bought out by the adjacent resturaunt and torn down for pavement, and an old empty lot that was eventually joint purchased by about half the bussinesses in the area for use as a group parking lot.
The rest of the town is like that... the roads were built with far less traffic and smaller stores in mind, so in the main parts of town we have big shopping areas with far too small parking lots... just one or two good sized parking complexes would do a world of good.

Oooh, Chun Li with the vicious spiked bracelets. That'll be cool. Were you able to get actual boxing boots, though, instead of platforms?
