posticon Fanime Con (San Jose)

Went to Fanime last weekend... and... well...

It was a sad excuse for a good convention.

Personally, with the amount of people that came and, quote, "...loved it...", I'm considering making my life fortune off Cons...

Because seriously, I could have organized better, gotten the public viewing stuff together better (rather than shown animesuki fansubs all con), and in general, ran a far better organized convention than they did, hands down.

There was like 3 people running the entire con, and everyone else were volunteers who joined after the start of the con (they saw the "we need volunteers" sign outside the rather tiny and pitiful con ops)

The highlight of the entire convention was the AMV contest... and I have personally done better jobs on video editing than about 3 of the 35, in less than a day of work (and they submitted them on their own time, with as much prep as needed).

*sigh* If I go next year, it will ONLY be because their dealer room booths are more affordable than say, AX, and I'll be setting up a booth to sell my company's first volume(s) next summer (cause I gotta a J-O-B... WOOOT!!!! ie, I finally hired my artist for very part-time work)

I had to admit though, I approved of about 1/3 of the cosplayers... it was overwhelmingly Bleach and Naruto... and Bleach won out by quite a bit (go Bleach!). There were groups that had the entire significant cast (including characters that haven't even spoken in the anime yet) of Bleach cosplayed excellently... down to every detail and fray.

The dealers room was basically, swords, porn, doujinshi porn (of which the yaoi section was 9/10ths) and random cutesy doll/toy dealers. No company booths, other than unrelated (Cogswell College, Gaia Online, another Con actually did signups there, but nobody heard of them and all they had was a paper sign and a fat guy).

I wasn't even going to buy anything, but one of the booths was just posters, and the guy had imported a butt-load of discontinued posters... I got an awesome ad poster for Magic User's Club... one discontinued years ago (ad for the TV series premier) in perfect condition. Now my wall has... 1 poster on it. Hehe... I'm picky.

I also blew $75 on two commisions from one of the artists... hey, I just realized I can scan them and show them to you guys.

They are sort of like future shots of my main webcomic characters, the "Otakus of Doom"

I'll get that to you guys some time before I die... quite possibly this weekend (I'm just saying I might forget, then after going through my commision collection in 50 years, find them and remember)

The greatest cosplay of the con was a really cute Itachi, who had hand embroidered each symbol perfectly, had picked excellent black cloth colored thread, and who even paid for a year's supply of custom made 3 star Sharingan contacts. She said she'd be wearing them all year, otherwise she had wasted $800.

It was incredible... other than the fact she had breasts, you almost wouldn't have been able to tell the difference (well... she was a little less cartoony though)

Not a single good Ichigo (Bleach) one... lots of good ones of the Captains though (Still Bleach) and one good one of Sandal-hat.
