i have a geek dream...

folks, come gather 'round and i shall tell you of my dream. it is geeky, just the way all dreams should be.

i have been working on the scimatics for a costume over the last year. i haven't even begun to construct it yet. it is no where near that stage. i need to smooth out all the workings it requires. but i have faith.

i kicked ass in industrial tech class and have studied many a book on puppetry and machanics. i believe i will reach my goal.

what is this acursed goal, you ask?

*drum roll*

i wish to build a chocobo costume.... *looks at all the disappointed faces*
wait, there is more. i know it has been done before, the old man-riding-an-ostrish costume, but with a chocobo. yes, i have seen these lame attempts.

but i ask you, did they try to make the costume to size???? or make movable parts????!!!!!!

huh?!. HUH?!.

NO.

i have been working on making a chocobo costume where the neck can move 180 to 360 degrees, the eyes blink, the mouth moves and the legs will be on stilts with believable toes that move when i step.

i have studied every picture i can find of chocobos, i have studied my own ****atiel for movements. this is my dream. i wanna kick ass and win an award. i have never won an award outside of the academic prosutes.

this will take time, this will cost money. but after seeing on tech tv where some dude in alaska is building his own working mecha, i have faith in my sad idea.

if i can get it done and i would love to see a flock of chocobo riders at a con.

this is my geek dream.

revel in it with me, will you.

i think that'a illegal at my local convention.

when you enter the ohayocon masq you have to list what con masqs you've been in and what costumes you have worn. what awards you've won and with what costumes. now remember, i'm trying to remember all this from 3 years ago when i entered. if you are under 4 costumes and 2 awards (i think) you are a novice. 5 to 8 (again i think, i'm trying to remember all this) costumes and 5 awards gets you the journeyman status. and anything above that is expert and when you reach this status you can only show off your costume and get no awards even if your costume kicks major ass. you may get honorable mention thou.

also, if you can only enter one catagory at a time. if you when an award for skit, you have to wait till next year to try out for craftmanship.

but they will not let you win another award if you've already won one for the outfit you are entering. i believe they also do some research into this and check all the major websites for the costumes. because there is like a 4 hour to 6 hour amount of time between the practice and the acutal event.

plus we are the first con of the year and the ohayo con staff is power mad. they wouldnt want to be the laughing stock if it was pointed out that someone snuck it past them.

there was one girl that won like 2nd or 3rd place skit award for singing filks to the tune of songs in the sound of music.

the first couple were ok but not much. the last one was f'ing funny. it was to the tune of "what do you do with a problem like maria". it was "what do you do with a problem like kikyo, what do you to someone who's already dead?". she mentioned stabbing, shoting, chain-saws and other various forms of violence to kikyo. that one got a standing ovation from the crowd.

I don't like the term 'filk' personally, but I have a few parody songs. I thought I had one or two posted here, and I know I made one into a comic. Maybe I should try to find em... been kind of saving them for more omakes though.

i've worked on a few myself, but unfortunally, most of them were freestyle-off the cuffs on road trips. so as you can guess, i can't remember the lyrics.

Let's see, offhand...

- Minmei's got a gun (to Janie's got a gun)
- Ranma Point Five (Mambo Number 5)
- Anime Rocks (cleveland Rocks/Drew Carey Theme)
- G.U.N.D.A.M. (Lola)
- It's Jusenkyo After All (It's a small world)
- ChibiChibi (let it be) (not much of a parody)
- Cardcaptor Paradise (Gangster's (Amish) Paradise) (incomplete)
- Chi's Centerfold (Centerfold)

I think Chi's Centerfold is in the comic archive.

I've been working on a couple, off-the-cuff, myself. Only one I can remember offhand is a parody of "Do Ron Ron" called "Do Ranma". One verse went like so:

Shampoo come to town to kill girlie.
Nobody tell Shampoo that "she" was "he"!
First, it "You I kill."
Now, it me you thrill!
And when Shampoo get him home,
She do Ran-ranma, she do Ranma!

I can't remember how any of the other verses went, other than one where Kuno "admits" both his knowlege of the curse and the fact that he doesn't care. "You thought I did not know? I do, Ran-ranma! I do, Ranma! <Ranma> AUGH!

Yes, that is supposed to sound as yaoi as you think. emoticon

Oh yeah--I just remembered another I'd worked on a little many, many years ago, near the beginning of my anime obsession. I think someone else came up with it independently, though. "Secret Agent Man", retooled to "Project: A-ko Babe"

Project....A-ko babe!
Project....A-ko babe!
They've given you a letter
And taken away your name!

That was all I ever got of it, though...
