Re: i have a geek dream...
Hey, A-ko was my very first anime, and it'll always have a special place on my shelves. (Alphabetically, that is, right after Princess Minerva. )
There was one other parody song I remember writing, actually...that tribute to Gret-chan I did waaaaay back in the Sig Wars... (Only Joe will remember this one...)

Geez... like 10 years ago? hehe.
Gret... wonder whatever became of her. Never heard from her again since they changed the name of Quik to NesQuik.

Re: i have a geek dream...
Went into shock at the name-change and has yet to recover?
10 years? I don't think it was quite that long ago...it was definitely before 2000, though...
If I remember right, 10 years ago was when I first typed "anime" into Webcrawler (a pre-Google search engine, for those who don't remember Webcrawler) and thus discovered that, yes, there were a lot of people out there like me.

Re: i have a geek dream...
Let's see... according to some old mail STILL in outlook...
I wrote my GUNDAM parody in June 2000.
My Ranma Paroday was before 1998 (That's when Softie told me it was listed on someone else's site, and I 'wrote' it when I went to Disney with Gret.
And according to a sigwar email from 1998, the First sigwars started in 1995... including the C-clones, which were yours I believe.
1996 was the year Mara and Bunny were created, also the year of me and Joyce (the less said about that the better. ^_-).
Hmm... I have that Bunny met Kyle in 1997. I know Bunny was 'officially' created sometime between July and December 1996.
Hmm... also according to my original storyline, this year Shiko and Mara (age 10) go back in time due to a 'cooking accident'. And Bunny's first two kids (Kyle Jr and Bunni) would be 2 and 1.
Holy crap... nearly 11 years since the Sigwars started, and 10 years of Mara-chan!

Re: i have a geek dream...
To bring you up to speed as quickly as possible...
WAY back in time, when the internet was young, there was a mailing list called the Ranma 1/2 mailing list. There were many interesting people on there, including a strange asian man named Rob...
Rob liked to talk to himself. Well, at the ends of his posts, after his signature line, he would have characters comment on what he had just said. These sig characters became more and more active and liked to take cheap shots at their 'author.'
I added some 'sigs' (as sig characters became known), who had fun tormenting Rob and his sigs, even to the point of cursing Rob like Ranma... thus the nickname 'Robma'.
Eventually these sigs grew in number, as did their authors, and they had little battles with each other. IT got to the point that a real post in the forum would have one "Me too" type line, and several dozen (hundred? in Rob's case) lines of these little battles.
We left the forum before we were kicked off and started our own forum JUST to have these little 'wars' between 'sigs.' Sig Wars. The Sigwars were born.
MANY many Many many stories later, these wars slowly migrated online to IRC too. It was there that Mara-chan and Bunny were originally born, then written into the 'official' Sigwars.
Unfortunately the numbers of authors ballooned quickly then eventually petered out. I think we had a total of 28 different authors (14 active at once max), with several THOUSAND sig characters. We threw out one person, two got engaged and broke up rather messily (*whistles innocently*), many moved on and got real lives, one joined the navy, one had notorious internet/computer trouble...
It was a lot of fun, and the core 'sigwars' lasted through 4 'major' wars and nearly 3 years of CONSTANT storywriting. I STILL have some unread posts sitting on my computer to this day. It moved onto IRC almost exclusively and petered out completely about a year or so ago.
So that's the general story of the Sigwars.
Oh, and Mags, I still have a list of your sigs... do you remember Brylcreem? Bubbles? Your demons? Heheh

Re: i have a geek dream...
Yeah, I remember most if not all of my own old sigs. It's trying to remember everyone else's that gave me fits.
My characters have changed quite a bit since then, though, especially since I've been trying to remove anything copyrighted by anyone else from their backgrounds, so I can maybe...possibly...publish them myself--which means no more Brylcreem.
<Aloris> Thank God!
Yeah, I still have Aloris, though I still need to figure out a way to make her change from girl to boy and back without stepping on Rumiko Takahashi's (Ranma 1/2) or Hiroshi Aro's (Futaba-kun Change) toes.
Who'd we throw out? I don't remember...
Sorry about that, phish--Joe and I are old friends, and we do occasionally get into a 'rehash the good old days' kind of mood.

Re: i have a geek dream...
it's cool, magami. i was just a little confused.
thank you for the wonderful and informative narrative, marachan.
it sounds a little like something i started on another forum but it got stopped by the forums' TPTB (the powers that be).
it was an innocent game of tag on the nekobox forum (where i was know as momijichan). i was very bored and started it as
subject: psst come here... a little closer...
message: TAG, YOUR IT!!!!!!!
this little message grew into several people tagging and running away. then retagging the next person (whoever decided to post). then i decided to watch the fun and wrote some posts of me sitting off to the side while the others got into a BIGGER game of tag (by this time 100 posts). others joined me, eating popcorn or whatever, watching the antics. the tags grew more and more involved. some people hide under boxes and tagged. others ninja-poofed in and used ninja skills to tag. my partner in crime was doing puns (i started a thread as an homage to the callahan's bar punday nights line, with our own punday night. my partner in crime, verseprophet, is the master of the bad pun). one of the posters hated puns so much he summoned a dragon to rain terror down on poor verse. from there, it grew to rpg proportions. hp+++ here MP+++ there. summoning spells. all in the name of tag. it was kept going as a way to relieve stress, whatever stress you had from your day/life. it ended tragically at 915 posts, when the forum holders decided enough was enough.
and that, my friends, is my own little piece of forum fame and history. *sniff*
*wipes away a tear*
