US Theme Songs

I have a theory I'm trying to test.

Almost every American cartoon and all of the anime that's given english songs and played on TV basically covers the plot in the lyrics.

Think about it.

Everything from Ninja turtles to Scooby Doo to Cardcaptors.

Now, compare that to Japanese theme songs which in most cases have absolutely nothing to do with the series they're introducing.

Can anyone think of examples that prove me wrong?

I dunno.... The only thing that would seem to fi tin this catagory are the theme songs for Wild Arms I+II.

WEll, some of my examples...

POKEMON:
The whole song talks about the creatures and 'catching them all' and being the best, etc.

CARDCAPTORS:
Gives the whole backstory

SAILOR MOON:
Describes what she does and who her friends are.

The Japanese versions are NOTHING like this.


Actually Big O doesn't have anything more than "BIG O... Big O Big O BIG O..."

I haven't heard the One Piece opening... I can never remember when it's on. -_-

I think I saw PART of it once... and it did sound bad for a dub.

Have you ever read the lyrics to the theme song for Fox's version of Slayers?

It makes me glad that there is a good chance that they will never actually get arround to making their version of Slayers.

Hmmm... I can't think of anything to dispute you...

But then, I don't watch TV anymore.

I never liked Slayers myself. I thought it fell tremendously short of funny, and was more annoying because it was so obvious they were trying to be.

they totally screwed u over in cardcaptors w/ the theme song cause they never aired the first ep. so they had to make a creepy song with a wierd lady singing it just so you could figure out what the hell was going on in the show.

Philistine! Slayers rocked! I guess it just fit my personal sense of humor more than yours.

As for theme songs...anyone consider the theme for the first season of Ranma 1/2? It didn't really describe the plot, but it did go into the relationship between Ranma and Akane. (Unless Viz screwed up the translation more than I thought...)
