Bought tickets for Star Wars III
I just ordered tickets online for Friday night's late show.
I've reserved our spots for 2-1/2 hours of galactic adventure. It'd better not suck!

Re: Bought tickets for Star Wars III
It had better not suck when I rent it on DVD... cause that would be a waste of a couple of bucks... like I'm gonna waste any cash for theaters after number 2, REGARDLESS of how many times Lucas says this will start a new religion (or basically implies)

Re: Bought tickets for Star Wars III
I'm hoping that the largeness of screen and the deafening surround sound at the theater will help the movie.
Now if Joe would just hurry up with his spoiler -free assessment....

Re: Bought tickets for Star Wars III
The dialogue was barf, but the movie was very visually exciting. I can see why the attention deficit generation really likes this show. Potential to induce seizures in a fogey like me, though.
Worst script and worst acting ever. Ugh. It seemed like the actors were playing second fiddle to the backgrounds and visual effects which was really a pity because if they'd been allowed more than three minutes per scene to actually act, the characters would have had much more depth & been more engaging. Then it would have really been a movie instead of just a string of effects.
I thought it was funny getting to see Chewbacca, and Garry spotted the Millenium Falcon in one scene. That was the only highlight for him; he hated the movie.

Re: Bought tickets for Star Wars III
Hehe, I haven't seen it but I got my brother to spill the beans (he saw it last night).
He said the exact same thing... he thinks the acting was intentionally corny, and he said that it was worth it just to hear the godawful 'evil' voices that Palpatine made.
He also told me about how dissapointing the movie was, and how it was sad...
In fact, everything he described to me just compounds my conviction that George Lucas cannot write worth crap... he can picture things well... but all visual and no story/audio makes a pretty dull movie.
:edit:
Something that made the original trilogy so great and well done was... they didn't want corny acting, and they didnt get it... Lucas wanted these really intricate creatures, but he didn't design them, concept artists and background writers did. So in the end, the 'lifelike' nature of the older Star Wars, and the good acting, none of that was Lucas. In fact, from a script point of view, they weren't "great" movies, they were just implemented with a level of detail and depth that made them great.
The recent movies lack that because Lucas does EVERYTHING with visual effects... and since that's his thing (he practically created the industry and technology) he controls it, rather than the old fashioned detail boys. So it looks good, moves good, but doesn't FEEL good.
