Bring your Child to Work Day
Thursday April 26th is Bring your Child to Work Day. We are really looking forward to it here. Everyone brings at least one or two. We find all kinds of fun things for them to do, cookout and at the end of the day they get their envelope with pay. It's been something fun we have done for years, the kids love it. And those that don't have kids bring their pets (furkids).

Re: Bring your Child to Work Day
I remember that day! I loved it!!! We call it Take Your Kid to Work Day hehe...I think they might have canned it now though as one kid got killed at their parents' work...yikes...but that might've been only for one year though...
Anyways for my Take Your Kid to Work Day I went with my dad on a business trip! It was quite an experience...my dad does all kinds of consulting stuff, he has his own business...he had a job in Tadoule Lake, which is in waaaaay Northern Manitoba...further north even than Churchill (the Polar Bear capital of the world)...We had to go on this little bitty 9 person plane that was soooooo loud! I learned to play cribbage on the 3 hour plane ride...I had never been that far north so I thought that was really cool. Also, the job was on an Aboriginal Reserve...it was really eye opening...Most of the kids there hadn't ever seen a white person, let alone a fair skinned blonde like me, and I had a couple of little girls following me around the whole day! It was strange to see the poverty that was on that Reserve...it's really sad the way they have to live because mistakes in policy (over time) have turned them from a well off self sustaining society to a people who have lost a lot of their hunting rights and among other problems are left with nothing better to do than abuse drugs etc...I don't remember learning much about my dad's job, but I really value seeing what goes on in a Northern Reserve first hand...I always think back to that and I try to be involved in Aboriginal issues...
I hope all your children are able to take something valuable from their work experiences!

Re: Bring your Child to Work Day
Wow, you had a great experience, it might not have related much to your Father's work- but it related to life. That was a great day- you still keep it with you so it must have really made a lasting impression.
We are emergency mining response. So we are actually hoping for a laid back day when the kids are there, because when there is a mining emergency- it does get crazy. We have a sister company though that is product based and all the kids will help preparing the kits that go along with that company. They love it.
We will have little ones Olivia being the smallest, a boy with down syndrome (he comes from a family with 10 kids), pre-teen and teenagers, grandchildren too. Those who don't have children usually bring their pets. We have a blast. It's chaotic, we don't do alot of work & we have a cookout- our UPS guy's wife and kids even pop in. So I am really looking forward to it. At the end of the day they collect their paycheck- it's a fun day for us, it really is.

Re: Bring your Child to Work Day
Had to leave my little one behind today, she woke up fevered and nose running like crazy (guessing teeth) But we have about 10 little ones here and they are in the production line... my friend actually runs that part of the building and I had to tell them I hope those kiddos don't put him out of a job, they are work a holics. Laughing and giggling over there like you can't even imagine. Going to be fun today

Re: Bring your Child to Work Day
Ah bless, poor little thing hope she's feeling better. We don't have that in Ireland - the great 'Celtic Tiger' means that everyone is too busy to bother with such a sweet tradition. I know our gang would LOVE to come see my office etc....shame. Hope y'all had a good day!!
