Re: My peanut
WONDERFUL
They are so resiliant those little mites! Take it easy with food for her for the next 2wks, little and often is better. Might be good to get her some kiddie acidophilus chewable tabs - they help replenish the good bacteria in the tummy - we always use them here after a bout of tummy bugs. Our 'season' for them is coming up - we always get them after the kids return to school from i guess being in contact again with all the others, all the bugs seem to love Sept in this country!

Re: My peanut
my granddad has always been a firm believer in sweet acidophilus milk. I never knew you could get what I imagine are better benefits, in tablet form.
Stuff (bugs & the like) seem to pass around like crazy here as well when the little ones go back to school. School begins here the 29th of this month. Our winter is usually the worst of it. Beginning November colds and flus seem to grab hold of everyone and pass back and forth until spring gets here. We had an awful time last year. I was just about to the point of calling someone in to look at the house to see if it was something in here ~ the boys doc and Livy's ped said they were both pretty certain it was common everywhere so I didn't.
My bosses neighbor is a firm believer in homeopathic practices and has helped tremendously with various things Eric and Glor have dealt with. I'll have to ask Glor if she knows where her neighbor get the various meds.
I sure appreciate when you share what you know. Am learning a lot ~ thank you.

Re: My peanut
Yes Lost - with tummy bugs you need to avoid dairy for at least 2wks after you've started to feel better. Tummy bugs LOVE dairy and it helps them to increase. THat's why the lozenges would be better in this case. The very best ones are called Udo's Super 5, they are a raspberry flavoured lozenge that you chew after eating. when we've had a tummy bug here we take one after each meal and chew it - Olivia should be able to chew it but if you were worried you could crush it between 2 spoons and get her to suck the little pieces.
You need to keep her food v.plain and simple, no sauces, ice-cream or excessively rich or sweet fruits. Lots of little snacks and often. Plenty fluids but avoid juices so water mainly or some of those isotonic drinks. Definately no OJ or apple juice as this will irritate her already inflamed tummy.
There are many homeopathic remedies (over 4000 of them in total!!) which are very effective for gastric troubles but again you would need to have a homeopath near you to do proper assessment. Sometimes health shops will sell the stuff and not really know what they are recommending then people lose faith in it as it doesn't work. The thing about hom is that it's specific to an individual - what will help one persons tummy bug won't work for another.

Re: My peanut
We are just plugging away small snacks throughout. I have been giving her pedialite ~ and no milk yet, but she is dying for it ~lol. I am going to look into the Super 5 ~ I have a feeling my bosses neighbor probably gets the stuff close or knows how to locate it, as she is a firm believe in homeopathy. And she could chew through this house if she had to, to get to a cookie. She is like a little piranha, lol. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction, I really do appreciate it.

Re: My peanut
Funnily enough in this case a plainish cookie is probably ok!! It is low fibre (which is what you need for a while after a 'clear out') and as long as it's not covered in choc should be fine. Also she is probably needing some sugars to give her back some energy after all that upset. She's old enough to do fine without the milk for a while altho' it sounds like she loves it! What about soy or rice milk? they are ok in moderation after a tummy bug.

Re: My peanut
We went to the store this afternoon to pick up a bit of fresh fruit and I saw soy milk and almost put it in the cart but wasn't sure if that would be ok so I left it behind. I am going to pick some up for her tomorrow if it won't hurt her.

Re: My peanut
Take it real easy on fruit also, the only ones i'd use for the first week are bananas and definately no citrus for her for a while.

Re: My peanut
It was bananas :) ~ she would eat nothing else but, if I would let her. I think a banana is her most favorite thing to eat. She always has one in the morning. And sometimes she has 1 for a night night snack before bed. She has never done well with citrus ~ breaks her bottom out something awful so if she gets that (and none right now) its only in a v. small quantity.

Re: My peanut
Oh that's great, banana's, white bread/toast, rice are great foods to help the tummy recover after a bug. Citrus doesn't suit a lot of babies. I see a lot of kids who get juice all day and the moms come because their bums are red raw - poor wee things - juice especially oj is v.acidic for all not just babies. I always recommend if the baby/kid will only drink juice then to dilute it gradually increasing the dilution till it's at least 50/50 water. Juice (all types) is also a big culprit for kids who wet the bed - in almost all the cases i've seen the kids drink tons of juice. Get them onto water or well diluted juice and the problem greatly reduces.

…
Olivia is 2 today :) ~ it went quick but it has been so cool. Her brother has her now over at the park ~ they usually take a walk after her nap or her and I do.
Her party will be tomorrow out at Grandma's ~ we opened the gifts from us today (there was no sense in driving them out there only to bring them back home) so she had a party yesterday at school, we had one today and she will have the family one tomorrow.
She has had a great day and I am hoping the evening is special with the arrival of her kitties ~ we haven't been canceled yet so I am hopeful. Will post pictures if tonights the night...
Anyways just wanted to share Dibby Doo is 2 Hope everyone has a great weekend.
