Re: Getting ready for kindergarten
pre-school is still not the norm here in Ireland - if kids do go they generally go at 4 for one year before 'big school' - i reckon it'll pick up big time tho'. Our guy went to 1 year of it for 3 morns a week i think it cost us about 120 for the month but that was 2yrs ago now. It is ridiculous really - research shows that early education is SO vital for little 'uns for their socialisation etc etc it should be state funded like the schools. Do you guys get any tax relief on those payments?

Re: Getting ready for kindergarten
Nope. We have a program for 4 year olds in the public school system "if they qualify" (i.e. financial need) whih is basically pre-K/preschool held at the elementary school. Otherwise, it is all private but I would definitely say becoming the norm around here and we live in a small university community. Now, kindergarten is being treated as "pre-1st grade" and kids are expected to know more when they go. My guy is an old kindergartener, turning 6 next month (he missed the cut off date for enrollment), and it's working out well for him. Still, I don't know how those little ones who are the younger kindergarteners handle all these expectations. Seems very hard. I'm so thankful our son had such a wonderful preschool experience and learned so much because its given him a leg up (he's reading already at a 2nd-3rd grade level), but still I worry about other kids. For that reason, we have started having talks with our son about helping others to learn what he has if he has the chance.
