Re: Off to a Great Start
Mom actually broke out the peas and he said he hoped they weren't going to be on the menu. Decrease in swelling again. Her boyfriend (sounds ridiculous saying Mom's boyfriend, lol they have been together on and off for years though at least) is actually a nurse so he has been keeping an eye on it and I know its elevated above the heart because he argued with them about that ~ he is the world's worst patient...
Tomorrow 10 am he goes which I am just going to meet them up there. Monday's Mom is off from the Post Office and she wants to go as well. And depending on what happens there he'll either come back here (if casted) or if they don't cast and its still real ginger I'll let him go to Mom's for another night or two. Just too many steps here and a little sister who won't understand she has to be very careful with his foot/ankle.
Thanks so much again :)

Re: Off to a Great Start
Possible break ~ because of the location right on the ankle there was no definite answer. The doc does feel it is a fracture. We had 2 options... dedicated faithful wearing of the air cast for 8 weeks or just go with a hard cast. We opted for hard cast. And... new to us was the ability to have a wet cast so that he can shower. The doc said with all the stairs in the home, the baby, previous medical history with the ankle this was definitely the correct route. He is very hopeful this 8 weeks will be just the rest the ankle needs and there will hopefully be no more incidents. We will do physical therapy after the cast is removed for additional measure.
His guidance counselor called this am. Because we were unsure what the results of the doctors appointment would bring and because we are just into the school year, they moved his schedule around a bit to be a bit more accommodating. They removed phys. ed this semester and have secured him a spot in adaptive phys ed should he get casted (which he did) also juggled classes around so that he can move about the buildings in a more orderly fashion keeping things as close together as possible.
Thanks all for the help, it's appreciated. Mom spoiled the heck out of him. She loves to cook, lol ~ so he comes back to me and some ideas as far as menus while he is in recovery... I told him he better have Granny stop at the store after the pharmacy and them two could have a cookathon prior to me getting home from work. I don't think it flew though ~ hope springs eternal.

Wow - what a school! if only Justin and our lads school was so accomodating! I think the hard cast is a good idea. Hope it all goes smoothly - i'm sure being a male he will milk granny for all she is worth ! LOL!

Re: Off to a Great Start
He played her like a fiddle, lol. But it was good for them both :)
you guys will get a chuckle out of this, I think. A couple weeks ago Zak being the world's biggest hypochondriac was malingering around the house... So we compiled a list and we laughed and chuckled the whole way through it while doing it. And he would like a nightly inventory of ailments taken just so he is certain he really is ill, lol.
Here is his list:
quote: 1. slight cough
2. water behind ear drum
4. Bad earache
5. slight knee pain ~ both knees
6. Left knee locked up
7. terrible throbbing headache
8. right tonsil painful
9. lower back causing lack of sleep
10. left ankle just popped
11. neck pain
12. spasms in right bicep
13. Mark on right bicep ~ bludgeoned
14. zit in eyebrow ~ massive pain
15. Carpal tunnel ~ both wrists
16. double hangnail left thumb
17. current pubic area pain / hairs caught in zipper earlier in day, pain still lingers.
He was in the 20's we removed a few, as we thought he was grasping at straws just to pad the list :)
He is such a goof and my goodness he had best get a wife that will put up with it. He's a great kids, so fun and I wouldn't have him any other way though.
I probably should mention other than the cast ~ he really is the picture of health, but he truly loves an illness

Re: Off to a Great Start
thinking he might have to go back to my Mom's lol. The crutch wars were horrible tonight. Evil Mom actually had to make an appearance, I felt horrible ~ but he had one Alex had the other and they were dueling. Nerves are shot.
I left him in Mom's care while they casted as they were behind in the office a bit. They explained that if he doesn't keep all weight off this ankle surgery could be necessary when it comes off in 8 weeks.
It could be the new year before we get these crutches out of this house. With this place being filled with teen boys the thoughts of that aren't pleasant.

Re: Off to a Great Start
Ours is a madhouse ~ well should say funhouse or something, because we do have a blast ~ I am sure the neighbors think we are half nuts if not fully (and to be honest we probably are closer to fully). The neighbor lady Leah saw Mom bringing Zak in with his cast on so she came over last night... She was a Mom of 5 pretty active ones in her day ~ I think she is about 70 years old now so those days are long passed.
Well when she says a quick hello or comes over to the porch to see the baby for a second I try to act as it we are "normal" ~ but she fully understands and appreciates the chaos (most times). They aren't real crazy about me letting the boys play poker for real money, but they roll with it. It keeps them off the street so that's how she is able to look past it.
Well she came over just to let Zak know if he needed anything while I was at work all he had to do was call her ~ which I thought was nice. And then he hits her with Mom just threatened full body cast so I might have to hire you full~time. The look on her face was priceless... Luckily she knows how we are and I just explained a serious war of the crutches broke out so she chuckled.

Re: Off to a Great Start
See? now, that is God at work. You had all these neighbor problems and then this wonderful woman shows up offering help and hopefully restoring some of that good neighbor feeling. That is a blessing in disguise.
