Re: My Empty Garden

Beautiful!! I never knew a morning glory could grow from a basket. I have been wanting to string lines off the far end of my porch each year and I never get to it. I will have them in baskets this year. I loved them as a child. The Rose of Sharron is gorgeous, it was worth the wait.

According to herself the morning glory seeds must be soaked overnight before sowing them. She wraps em in a paper towels, puts them in a saucer & then wets them. :)

She knows her stuff, so I will follow that to a T. I can't wait for the weather to break. I did buy my onion sets but it'll be a bit yet.

Fresh onions are wonderful aren't they! Whole different flavour to store bought, like tomatoes & peppers. :teef

We are right down near Vidalia country (south in Georgia) so those are the best around here. Very fresh, especially at the fruit markets!

We have a local farmer's market that has them and they are scrumptious. Love green peppers too- I bever leave the store without them. As I get older they agree with me less, especially towards evening, but I still enjoy them.

We always had them up north too but being so close to the real Vidalia, GA, they just seem better and fresher.

A good way to enjoy peppers if they're hard on you lost is to grill them, brushed with olive oil. That way you can peel off the skin(which is prolly what upsets you) :)

Re: My Empty Garden

yeah - I was spoiled by the fresh of the tree/vine produce when I was a child - before this area was so built up - lots of orchards everywhere - and they all had 'fruit stands' along the roads all summer long - now store bought stuff leaves me rather cold

we do have several farmer's markets - all over the place - still lots of produce being grown not too far away - just have to plan to get to them on the proper day - and I'm not so good about that :p
