Proud Grandmother

Triplets :hooray

My baby birds made it through the cold snap. They hatched when temps dipped way below freezing last week for the whole week. Little Mama seldom left the nest but I didn't think they would make it. All 3 of them did I saw 3 naked little heads stretching their necks to eat tonight. They nest each year in the awning off of my panty so I am just about eye level with the nest from inside the house. Olivia has been fascinated she loves telling her birdy hello in the morning and she even tells her night night before bed. Next week the little babies should be big enough for her to hear and see- it should be fun.

I could have died when I read what I wrote... Awning in my pantRy lol.

I wish I could share one of my most embarrassing moments of all times- it hapened last night running to the store, kinda along the same lines as the panty faux pas, but it's too fresh yet and I would die to see it in print. Once it's not so fresh and painful I might build the courage to share. Needless to say I feel as if I have to find another all night mart to stop into.

Re: Proud Grandmother

I actually have 4 baby birds and their heads just clear the top of the nest. I hope to get a picture to post this week. They are really tiny and really cute. Today we actually opened the window and Livy pretty loudly kept saying Hi Birdy and Mom sat right at the edge and continued to feed- she didn't run off. I am guessing she is getting used to us. We do give them their privacy but Livy always says good morning and goodnight. This afternon I just couldn't help it I wanted her to see the babies because they are so little yet they can only be seen when they are feeding.

awwww....
sweet

a neighbor of mine had a hummingbird nest this year just outside her window - so they were able to see something probably not a lot of people get to see - they managed to video record a bit too - so I got to see it that way :neon

I love hummingbirds and had gazillions of them when we lived out in the country. Moved into town and haven't been able to attract one. I have seen one but the little buggar didn't like was I was offering him & I felt I put the goods out (National Geographic feeders even :) )I keep trying though, one year we're going to have a regular visitor.

Re: Proud Grandmother

boy - we get a lot of hummers where I live - and we are fortunate to have at least one species that resides year round with us - Anna's hummingbird

we also seem to be on a migratory lane and have a ton come thru as they migrate north in the spring, and south in the fall

last year I had out three feeders and it seemed as tho they constantly were empty!!!

oh - last year I bought a feeder that mounts on a window with suction cups - and stuck it on the kitchen window - and if you don't make sudden moves was able to watch the birds from about 18" away - and the feeder also has perches - so they do sit and you get a wonderful close-up look!!!

I have noticed a lot of activity in the old nest the past two weeks... looked out this morning and there are more babies, way too little yet so I couldn't get a count. Looks like the same Daddy... is it possible they could have had 2 nests of eggs or would they have to be different birds?
