Re: June 15th Jinzy thanks a bunch for keeping us in the know as it relates to stuff like this. Even just reading the thread helps folks think about & that's a start. We'll wear our purple here
Re: June 15th i think it's very important to recognize that this happens because it's so awful that people take advantage of the elderly...is the colour purple cuz of the red hat society? my gramma's in that! she's so cute! hehe
this may be inappropriate, not sure, but on a lighter note, there's this comedian rick mercer from canada who has a show called "talking to americans" where he goes down and poses as a serious reporter asking questions to americans about canadian issues etc (and naturally getting them to make fools of themselves lol)...there's this one where he gets people to sign a petition to stop the canadian government from leaving the elderly on icebergs to freeze! lol can you believe people actually thought we do this??? haha
Re: June 15th I even have a purple nightie on so I am covered beginning at midnight....
It might not be pretty I know its 15 years old if not older~ remember wearing it when Alex was a baby ~ but it's Purple and I have had my shirt ready since Jinzy first posted
If you have purple please wear it ~ it's really an important statement
Re: June 15th I am glad that my grandmother didn't go to a nursing home and that she passed away fairly quickly in ICU. I have worked for some pretty bad nursing homes and I can tell you what I have seen sickens me. I had to get out of that profession or I was going to go off the deep end.
Your elders sure did take a wrong turn somewhere.

Re: June 15th I think it's very important if a family has no other option but to place their family member in a nursing facility the family has to stay involved and dedicated 100% and ensure their loved one is being cared for with respect, love and dignity. You can't just place them in a facility and assume everything will be ok~ yo need to be there as often as possible to ensure it.
My girlfriend worked at the VA hospital for years... It always made me so sad to visit her and make friends with the patients and come to find out their family never visited them. I would often pack up the boys and head in and visit... We met some fantastic people who were just wonderful with the boys. We visited, played checkers, went outside. It was a truly wonderful experience. I can' wait for Olivia to get a bit older so I can enlighten her life with the experience as well.
If you haven't considered befriending a local nursing home, care facility it really is something you should give some thought to. It is a wonderful experience for everyone.
