We still have to get him to 'ask' Lost because so far it is only when he is 'trouserless' but it is a big step forward

Yeah!!! That's brilliant sass!!! Our son was urine trained at around the usual time but we had a lot of trouble getting him bowel trained - he was about 7yrs old when we could say he was no longer having major probs and probably another year before we were out of the woods fully. What a wonderful wonderful start for your GS - congrats to you all!

BTW - all our kids trained 'naked' ie in the summer, out in the fields with no trousers on!! I thnk it's the natural way to start training.

Re: Autism Awareness Month

I go the naked route with Livy in the evenings ~ we live in the city so I have to keep her indoors although she has gone out on the porch twice and said hello to passers by ... she hasn't used her potty yet though so I love hearing when someone has success ~ gives me hope emoticon

And things went to great with Justin's appointment. Next week we meet his new buddy and they have all kinds of activities that he will be involved in. 8-10 hours a week to start. I really do think after he gets over the initial being ticked he was pulled away from the game system he could start to enjoy this. I have noticed now when Livy and I go over to visit he comes out on his own to say a quick hello to us~ I don't have to tell him to get his backside out of the room and come see us. Baby Stepping but I know he is beginning to see we aren't temporary we are there on a regular basis and we love him.

Also he does qualify for Social Security or Disability ~ not sure what they classed it as. At their appointment Wednesday the lady helping prepared and collected all the paperwork Jimmy would need to get him approved and they went to the Social Security Office. Their formal appointment is July 16th, but they have been told if everything is as Jimmy explained (and it is) he will most definitely be approved. So that will be something that will help Justin as his parents haven't stopped in in about a month. He just can't depend on them for his needs so this will allow him to have some of the goodies he likes and get a little nest egg started.

So we have had a great week. I need to take Olivia up for a different sandal this weekend as her toes are getting grubby playing at daycare (her 2 pais she likes are open toed) so I let Justin know to be ready tomorrow we are heading to the mall~ he loves one of the video stores so he seemed pleased.

BRILLIANT NEWS!!! Wow - isn't that fantastic. 8-10hrs a week - that's HUGE! Well done!!!! emoticon

Also, getting the funding/allowances sorted is so important. It's more than just the money, it gets these kids 'in the loop' for more services.

I'm so proud of y'all - such progress in such a short time emoticon

Re: Autism Awareness Month

yes the official diagnosis has opened so many doors~ we are so excited. Next week we are off Thursday and Friday and we are taking him to the bank to get an account opened for him and we will begin to teach him money management, just little bits at a time.

And I was thrilled when I heard 8-10 hours a week. I was very pleased. And they take the time to find someone who suits the situation the best. He is eligible for this current program until he is 21 years of age. We have been told at 19 he is the oldest participant they have. We have also been assured once he turns 21 he will move to a different program. People are going to help us the whole way through this and that's a relief.

This program also helps with his college. His buddy will take him to the college speak with his professors, modify his curriculum where appropriate so that his needs are considered. They have assured us his already strong academic performance will definitely improve. They say from what they have seen to date they fully expect him to be on the Dean's List once he returns in the fall.

It has been such an uplifting week. Jimmy was getting discouraged ~ so this couldn't have come at a better time.

Definately emoticon

Our lad was a bit grumpy this morn and I thought here we go ....but it passed quickly and we just had a good laugh there a few mins ago about something. Life for anyone is tricky, but dealing with asd I think it is like an obstacle course you literally never know what's around the corner. As long as we get more smiles than frowns we're happy. Some years back there were months where we didn't get a smile due to crap at school etc......thankfully they are gone and I'm determined they won't be back.

Re: Autism Awareness Month

Well I've aged 20yrs again - bad day yest. Poor lad went off to his uni course so excited and had an awful time. It would seem they didn't get the funding to put the 121 person in place but we didn't know! So he managed till about lunchtime and then couldn't cope and we got a call to say he was kicking the door in the lunchroom....anyway our tutor picked him up and he came home in tears - still crying at 10pm last night. He was exhausted and confused. He worked hard in the morn, had over 10 pages of formulae etc written - so much writing that his right arm was sore! Then the lunchbreak came - a full hour - he didn't know what to do. He ate in about 10mins and then was just sitting/standing there and it all got too much. He didn't shout or strike out at anyone he just got wound up and stood there kicking the door (I don't believe he did that v.hard or anything) ....he said the teacher is crap (LOL!) and the stuff boring etc etc ...basically he just wasn't 'engaged' in the room - it's hard for him to get engaged without some 121 help to guide him and gee him up a bit. Anyway he went in today the brave lad he is and our tutor will stay with him a few hrs. Hubby also gone to talk to them as I've deadlines for work. So it prob won't work out....the joys! I am SO tired today...tired and a tad pissed off.....

Well that sure was a kick in the teeth. But you have to give him credit for going back today after the day and evening he had yesterday~ that says so much. And I chuckled out loud when I read he said the teacher is emoticon ~ because I am certain as can be that came right from his heart and he meant it with everything he had.

Because they didn't get the 121 funding are there other options available for the kids who do need someone with them throughout the day? I hate to think this isn't going to be possible. My goodness the work he did yesterday. I can imagine a tad pissed in an understatement.

I'll keep my fingers crossed that something good happens today and that the evening is more settled than last night. Please let us know how it went & hang in. He is amazing and he is going to catch his break, I just feel it. Hang in Suzi, we're pulling for you emoticon
