Migraines 101
Suzi~ hoping you peek in here or anyone else with experience with these. I noticed Suzi said when she has a migraine she will sip a glass of wine.
A friend of mine suffers with them~ she gives herself an injection (not sure what the med is called). Would a glass of wine help when she gets one?
I always thought alcohol was to be avoided when a person had a headache~ so I am just curious because if this would help I would like to tell her about it.

Re: Migraines 101
Well alcohol does dilate the blood vessels which can relieve a headache. Now it doesn't cure mine fully, for that I need to sleep in a dark room adn just be v.quiet. Some people tho' get headaches from typical culprits like red wine, cheese & chocolate. I've stopped eating choc pretty much apart from v.dark stuff and a small piece at that as I will get an instant headache.
I treat a lot of people homeopathically for migraine and have fairly good results. If your friend has to have IV pain relief sounds like hers are quite severe.
She should avoid the foods/drink mentioned above. Try to get enough sleep but keep to a routine i.e. a lot of people get them at w/ends cause they sleep in. Idieally if you always get up at 8am you should do that at the w/end also. Stress has a lot to do with it too.

Re: Migraines 101
Migraines can also be related to magnesium levels and sometimes relief can be found with OTC supplements for that mineral. Just a suggestion- worked for me!

Re: Migraines 101
The weekend thing struck a cord as she usually gets them on Sunday's and they hang with her. And she says she can tell when they start by how they feel if they are going to be debilitating or not. Sometimes they don't go full blown.
She has a little gal a few months younger than Livy & her little gal doesn't sleep on any certain regular schedule so her sleep patters are irregular at best.
I am going to mention the ideas here to her, because when they come on she actually has to have one of her older girls care for the baby~ she is physically incapable of doing anything.
so much

Re: Migraines 101
Oh wow if they are w/end ones mostly the sleep thing is the first thing to look at. I know we all like a lie in - me as much as anyone - but for some this can be a definite trigger. If she could try for the next 3 or 4 weeks to go to bed and get up at the same time every day - maybe the sunday treat could be an extra long bath etc in the morn instead. If that helps then she could have this somewhat sorted. Hope it improves for her - they can be v.debilitating.
