Welcome Home Syd and Lola

They are here and they are just perfect. We are so tickled with them Syd & Lola ~

Syd is the boy, darker & Lola is the orange one.

Only snapped a couple pix tonight but that at least gives you an idea. And Livy was so tickled the boys were too (they picked the names and when Livy could say them that sealed the deal)

They are already happy playing with some toys sleeping on their blankie, Lola has eaten, Syd did munch on a snack.

Livy loves them the look on her face when she realized what was in the carrier was great and then she hit us with Oh my goodness would look at the kitties ~ she was just tickled. And the boys were pretty little when we last had a cat ~ so they couldn't remember a whole bunch ~ think they are very cool.

So they are here and we love them.

Beautiful!! how unusual to have a ginger female - is syd male or female? Gorgeous names - oh i love kittens! How are they doing with litter training etc? Cats are so clever they pick it up so fast. We just rubbed our cats backside in the litter tray a few times when she was little and that was it - she never messed. Good luck with them - they are precious! Will they be fully indoor or will they go out also?

Syd is male...Mom said the same thing about Lola's coloring too ~ that's how her name Lola came about actually. Mom said when she saw her she figured male & she is spunky. She was out of the carrier and happy, played instantly and buddied up to Alex ~ so the boys thought of the Kinks song and she was Lola. And Syd is a bit reserved, a bit unpredictable so Syd for him ~ homage to Pink Floyd. (Simpson's and Family Guy names were talked about too, which that made me chuckle because I thought of "the girls". ) But they really were meant to be Syd and Lola.

No little box activity as of yet. Lola ate a bit last night, Syd didn't. We have been placing them in there and scratching them around ~ hoping today confirmation will come that they have the desire. For right now fully inside. We live in the city. Our yard is fully fenced, but I don't think that stops a cat. I have never actually had a fully inside cat, but we are going to try for that. Jimmy actually puts Myrtle out on a run at his place because he is so afraid of traffic and he does well on it. So we are going for indoor. I know I need to get jingle collars at first. We lost Syd last night and we have 3 floors here and a basement was like finding a needle in a haystack and I need to dust a bit more than what I do at this point ~ last night made that very obvious as we were looking in places I guess we don't normally notice. They have now been noticed ~ so next weekend I need to dig in.

My vet actually called last night to see if they made it and if Olivia was excited ~ which I thought that was nice. We have stayed in touch even though I wasn't a patient there after what happened with Woogie. She said 6 months for shots and that's when they set up the appointment to spay and neuter. But she also said if I drop them on my way to work or bring them in the evening she'll give them a once over just so we know all is well. She is such a neat lady.

I put them in a basket last night to sleep and they slept right through never moved, never made a peep until 6 this morning. The baby didn't even wake up that early, lol but I put the coffee on and tried to show them back and forth to the kitchen.

It's just great ~ we are a family meant to have critters and it is just wonderful once again.

Aw that sounds wonderful! and your vet sounds amazing - what a nice lady! Re. the litter tray what we did was bring the cat to it, lift her tail and put a little pressure on her back half so that her butt was right down on the litter and then gave it a good rub in - I think they have scent glands there so once you really rub that in they can find the litter tray. LOL - they are already getting the full run of your place - 3 floors have a lot of handy hiding nooks!!

Sounds sensible to have them as indoor cats given your location and how lovely they have each other for company when you are all out at work/school. When you visit the vet you'll have to get them a couple of the catnip cushions they sell at the vets - it's a scream - it's like major major love instantly for most cats - ours roll around on the things (they are only just 3" square) and make the most wonderful sounds!

Critters are important for us all - I tell ya my hubby and I have talked more this w/end than in months just sitting up in the field watching the pigs, giving them a rub etc - it's so peaceful and nice. I hope you all really enjoy your new family members!

They are so adorable. I love kittens!

And Suzi, that's a great idea rubbing their behind in the litter box, I've never heard that one and will pass that along, it makes sense!

Welcome Home Syd and Lola

It make sense to me and it worked because Syd and Lola are potty trained 100%. Now my son Alex is ticked. I have them sleeping in a huge plastic tub that a person would use to keep pop cool at a large outside party. If it were bigger it would hold a keg of beer (if that allows you to know what I mean). We actually used if to hold misc. socks that have no mate (please don't ask why we need something that large, but we do). Now Alex feels as if its cruel to put them in there. I do wait until they are sound asleep, I scoop them up, they don't even wake and I place them in there and I have a "top" for it that is a piece of baby gate. It fits perfectly. They don't wake up until 6 or 6:30 in the morning & when I hear them stirring I wake up take the top off they hop out and hit the ground running. Our house is huge ~ if I let them to their own I would never find them because their necks are too tiny for a little bell collar. This lets me know they are safe and snuggled and I am able to see them having their breakfast. If I let them to their own I might not be able to locate them in the morning. I personally think they enjoy it, my son thinks its mean to contain them at night. What do you guys think?

Well, I think it's fine at this age. When they get a bit older they may not be so happy. Cats by nature are nocturnal creatures. We confine our cat to downstairs at night (she would love to be up in bed with kids!) so that she can't disturb anyones sleep. They really do need access to the litter tray at night when a bit older and if they don't have it will hold on and get a bit stressed if they have to wait. Is there a room you can close them into that has the litter tray and water bowl in it? that would probably be the ideal. Somewhere like a laundry room maybe?
Believe me cats will find their food, water and litter no matter how large the house but these guys are new to you yet so a bit of confinement is wise till they get more used to teh place. It sounds like they are doing fine - and great that they are fully litter trained now - what smart kitties!
