Re: The Music
I rememeber as a kid going to my older sister's house and listening to lots of music- they were hippie-ish to be sure, protesting the Vietnam War, etc. I remember being like 4-5y and coming home singing"Jesus Christ Superstar" and my mother almost having a heart attack! I also got a similar reaction when I sang the songs from "The Graduate"- the first true music soundtrack released. Since it was about adultery, it was scandalous to my conservative, suburbanite parents! My sister and borther-in-law got a real kick out of it!
I guess I would act the same way if my 5 year old started singing about things like that too, but even now it seems so harmless.

Re: The Music
One of my favorite musical numbers these days is "Volunteers" from Jefferson Airplane. It just gets me in a good mood when I listen to it. You ask a 16 year old if they've ever heard of it and they look at you as though you've grown a third eye in the middle of your forehead.

Re: The Music
Steve Miller was huge for us in about the 7th or 8th grade I would guess. We drove around and listened to the 8 track over and over. Everytime I hear him it takes me right back to the time.
Oddly enough when my folks divorced we lived about 3 blocks from where I do now and I can see our old store hangout it's on my same block. It's now a Red Cross... but when I sit out on the porch the stuff that pops back into my head wow.
Those we more my wild teen days though
Van Halen ~ with DLR like it was intended
Zep, Clapton, all the 80's hair bands...
