What kind of bass should I get?

Recently, I decided that I'm gonna make a switch to bass. Well, when I'm playing in a band, I think I'm gonna play bass 'cause I always thought chicks who play bass in hard rock or metal bands are kickass. I play guitar and stuff and I'm still gonna continue with the guitar 'cause it's my "first love," lol.

But the real question is...I'm looking to get a bass but I'm not the kind of person who has that much money so I was wondering what kind of bass is cheap and pretty decent for the money? I don't know a thing about basses, I'm a guitar person, lol.

Hey there. I started playing about 7 months ago now, & i just got my first bass for christmas. Mine is an encore, they are cheap & great for starting out with & messing about on, just to help you along your way! + there are some pretty cheap bass outfits which include amps, leads, straps & much more for a dam cheap price.
Stuff like this is good priced:

Well, just have a look around cause there are some great deals out there!
Good luck! emoticon

Hey, thanks for the tip. I had to use an online currency converter to convert euros into American dollars but it's $193 over here. That's not bad but I so don't have $193. I think I could probably afford $150-$179 or so. I'm THAT poor. I wish my step dad could help me buy it but he just got me red strat for Christmas, haha. If you see any good prices, lemme know. I'm looking for a pack 'cause it's a good way to start out.

Actually, forget what I just said. I found a way to make some good money so I can afford a little more than $179. Maybe in the $279 area or so.

Nicest bass (in my opinion) that ever resided in my household was a Musicman. My father tries to play bass, lol, and he once had one. I can't remember how much he paid for it, though. It wasn't a Sterling. I just loved the feel, the action was low and it played very smoothly, with a sweet sound.

I checked the Musicman basses out and they're about $675. That just screams expensive for me, lol. I'm actually checking out the Fernandes Tremor X bass pack but right now, the Encore bass that JasonStalker linked me to is $80 cheaper and that's tempting, lol.

Yep, id say Encore bsses are teh best for beginners & a cheap bass pack is even better to help you. No point buying a real expensive bass when your not really into the 'professional' side of playing + its bad if you decide you no longer would like to play. As for me, my encore is awesome & is great for leraning new songs emoticon

I've been playing guitar for awhile and pretty much any guitar player can pick up a bass and play it but it takes someone who really loves bass to be able to really get into it and stuff. I'm way into the professional side of playing and I'm not a quiter. I would never decide I don't want to play anymore. I'm graduating high school in a few years and I've basically got my life planned. Go to college, get a job, start a band, try to get a record deal at all costs emoticon. It won't be easy but it'll happen and then one day I'll make sure to thank the people at this board for helping me along the way, hehe.

I really need to stop shopping around. 'Cause a friend of mine works as a techincal assistant in a studio and said Ibanez make good basses. Now I'm thinking about getting an Ibanez, lol.

Yeah, I just can't see myself settling down and doing something normal. I wanna work irregular hours, travel a lot and be the creator, not the fan. But when I make it, I'm gonna hook up everybody, haha.
