Re: Kirk Hammett Jr. Series
Hours later, I carefully followed the 21-year-old Anastasia as she began her shift. She exited her vehicle on Pine Street and began walking on foot. I kept checking my watch, knowing that there were few minutes left. Luckily it was dark so people couldn't see me. But I had put on a ski mask just in case!
(Author's Note: This scene is dedicated to the inspiration of Captain Gloria Graham who broke up a fight in this manner once.)
Three guys were fighting outside a bar, and I figured that was what she'd gotten dispatched to.
"HEY! BREAK IT UP, RIGHT NOW!"
Wow, was that her voice? She had made it so gruff and deep that it even scared me!
The men immediately stopped fighting and began to scatter away. She had that presence that said "don't **** with the law". And she knew how to apply it!
With that, Ana continued walking. That's when the first shot rang out.
Anastasia called for backup on her radio. That was when I shot out to face Lani and her crew. I raised my gun and began shooting.
Two men were dead. I pulled their ski masks off and realized that it was Cutchings and Clevehurst.
A shot hit me in the chest, but luckily I had a bullet-proof vest on. Still, the impact will make you fall to the ground. I hit the ground and forced myself to spring back up again.
It was Lani this time. She was only a few feet in front of me. I raised my gun - but she took hers and slugged me across the cheek with it. My ski mask flew off.
This didn't make sense. Back when I was seventeen, she had been in prison. Why was she here?
"Junior, all grown up," she taunted. "Don't you recognize me? I'm from same the year you're from. I came back here to the past just to do this deed . . ."
Anastasia had heard everything and was shocked. "You and Kirk are from . . ."
"2018," we responded.
Then I reacted fast, shooting Lani in the face. She crumpled to the ground. It was finally over.
"Anastasia, you have to get out of here. There's one more person left - Mark Freyer. You need to go into hiding so that we can reunite in 2018. Or kill Freyer and meet me there. Whatever it takes."
Ana was alarmed. "I have to wait that long just to see you again?"
"Yes. I will marry somebody that could never replace you, and we'll have two sons. Then she'll have an affair which leads to our divorce. My oldest son gets kidnapped. My youngest boy, River, and I will be there in 2018 waiting for you. Or at least I will. He doesn't know yet. Anyway, make sure you tell the seventeen-year-old me that you must go into hiding because of Lani's crew. He'll understand. I'm sorry this is a lot to digest."
"I'll do my research via the time machine and figure out where your son is," Anastasia promised. I knew I could count on her to digest it all. She was already used to the craziness of the time and world machines, after all!
My face was bleeding. I immediately started booking north, and just kept on running until I was out of the city. I raced across the Golden Gate Bridge and continued running the five miles until I reached the Gunshot Premises. I was given medical attention, and the Next Dimension Team asked me how everything went.
I told them I had succeeded in my mission and that it was now time to go home to 2018. I was transferred back to my year.
I immediately consulted the Next Dimension Team when I arrived back.
"I'm afraid I've got some bad news," Frieda said. "Before Lani went back to kill Anastasia, she attacked your dad. He is in critical condition, and I suggest you get down there as soon as possible."
"Can't I reverse time to where I can get back here to save him?" I screamed.
"We'll be discussing that while you go visit your father," was Green's reply.

Re: Kirk Hammett Jr. Series
I was told that River was already there at the hospital with Dad. After I received that news, I wasted no time. I bolted out of the main Gunshot building and out into the parking lot. I blew a few yellow lights on the way to the hospital. I could barely breathe.
I hardly remember entering the hospital, or asking which room he was in. But next thing I knew, I walked into the room and there was my little boy, on his knees facing the bed, sobbing hysterically.
I gently placed my hand on his shoulder so that I didn't scare him. But he flinched regardless. He immediately threw his arms around my neck and cried into my shoulder.
I folded my arms around him firmly and looked at Dad. It was horrible. He had tubes all over him, like some science project, and one of those breathing tubes up his nose.
I couldn't look, not for now. It was too much. I concentrated my energy on hugging River.
"Where were you, Dad?" he sobbed. "Why didn't you protect us?"
Us?
"Are you hurt, too?" I cried.
"No. But she shot Pappy! There was blood everywhere!"
"Where did this happen?" I asked softly, trying to keep my voice level.
"At the playground. I was swinging."
River had a thing about swinging. Although he insisted that he was too old to play on the playground "for real", he still liked to swing. He claimed that it helped him think.
At first it softened my heart to think of his cute quirk. But then I felt angry because Lani had been sick enough to open fire on a children's playground. It wasn't fair - I'd killed her during my mission. Obviously she had gotten to Dad before I killed her back there. I hoped like hell that I could reverse this!
I didn't notice the lady when she walked into the hospital room. As she approached, I finally looked up.
It was Anastasia. She had grown up, and was three years older than me, just like the way it was supposed to be. She was all grown up, but yet she still looked young and pretty. Hell, we were only in our thirties, though, weren't we?
"He's beautiful," she said of River.
River looked up.
"River, I want you to meet a good friend of mine. Her name is Anastasia. Ana, this is the love of my life, River Hammett."
I had always taught my boys to have good manners, and to shake hands with people that they first met.
River stuck out his hand and said, "Nice to meet you, Miss Anastasia."
Ana smiled and shook his hand. "Nice to meet you too, Mr. River."
"Anastasia is a police officer," I explained to River, "And she's going to help us find your brother."
Then I heard a voice groan behind me, "Prince?"
I craned my neck around. "Dad?" I exclaimed.
Anastasia took something out of her bag.
"Whoa! You've got a PSP 4 too! I forgot to bring mine 'cos I was sad about Pappy," River informed Ana.
And that was that. They bonded over the latest video games and MP3 downloads as I saw to Dad.
"Dad, are you okay?" I asked him. His voice was so weak that I couldn't stand it. This man had created me, given me life, and had been strong enough to be there for me, unlike the other contributor. He had stuck around when she left, and he hadn't committed suicide like her - he was dying and it was nowhere near his fault. I wasn't sure whether I could handle losing him. He was my past, present, and future.
Tears streamed down my cheeks. "You can't leave us now, Dad," I choked out. "We love you . . ."
"I know," he said, "And I love you too. But we can't go on living forever, son-"
"It isn't your time!" I hissed. "You can't let her win!"
"Prince, just remember the promise you made. About Metallica."
"I know, I'll be their lead guitarist. But I'll never be able to replace you." My voice was cracking like crazy now.
"If I go," Dad continued, "I want you to go down to my basement studio. There are some songs I have lying around on some discs. It's up to you what you want to do with them. I don't care whether you release them, cover them, or just listen to them. But I want you to hear them. They're for you."
I buried my face into his chest and clutched his hand.
Anastasia and River weren't playing video games anymore. They were talking about the discs they'd heard Dad talking about.
"Those discs are really important to Pappy," River whispered to Ana. "I wonder what's on 'em."
