So Sad to Say
"Yes, Lana, I will be there. Obviously. Now should I wear the ivory dress or the red one? "
She sat in her apartment in L.A. trying to decide what to wear to her next big party. She twirled her straightened blonde hair nervously while trying to make a decision. Obviously, dating one of the most well known teenyboppers would make her strive to seek that extra touch on her evening gown. Here she stands, at her closet, waiting for the answer to come to her, whether received by her own mind or the cell phone.
"Okay, fine, Ill wear the ivory. Its the Versache Nick bought me several months ago. I love it to death but its just not my kind of dress I guess."
Lana answered "Honey, dont kill yourself over this. Nicks going to think youre gorgeous no matter what you wear "
She just didn't understand, "Nick wants me to be dressed a certain way. I could handle it for a while but now its just too much, you know? I need to be able to wear what I want without having the press everywhere with the threat of the headline of 'Nick Carters Girlfriend On Crack?' You know what would happen!" Liz becam exasperated, "if they find the slightest discoloration of my skin, it would be Backstreet Boy Beating Beau? Nick would be pissed."
"Okay, okay, wear the ivory one. It suits your skin color and your nails are done in ivory anyways, so it would match better. At least you dont have to redo your nails! "
"I dont want nails "
"Fine," Lana laughed Liz, "you're hopeless"
They said their goodbyes and Liz hung up the phone. She slipped into her Versache, found matching shoes and gazed into the mirror.
Youve changed so much She silently exclaimed to the over made figure in the mirror.
Nick called several minutes later.
"Hun, are you ready? I've got the limo pulling into your street now. Want to meet me outside?"
"Sure thing!" Liz loved to hear Nicks voice. "Ill see you in a sec"
And she hung up. One last check in the gigantic mirror, and she sauntered to the elevator, gaily greeted the bellmen as normal, and floated outside into the chilly October weather. Great night to be out! She thought. I cant wait to see him!
An enormous white stretch limo approached the drive of the hotel and the sandy-headed driver got out and graciously opened the door for her. Liz was not an eyesore. She was a beauty indeed. Not one that is strikingly gorgeous, but a warm, lovely sight to the eyes. Her long legs accented her rather short figure well, and she held herself with a great confidence. As she sat down on the tan leather seats, she saw Nick stretched out in his normal, somewhat casual suit for occasions such as formal parties he throws. He got up and slid next to her and held her hand and kissed her.
"It's great to see you, Liz"
They watched the outskirts of L.A. pass as they enjoyed their small escapade to Nick's most rural of houses.
"Its great to be with you," Liz whispered. She was having a lovely time just sitting there being with him.
They approached their destination and got out. People had already started to gather in the large house, since it was open for several hours even while the various servants were doing their household chores. Lizs eyes glittered with the thought of champagne being passed around in small flutes, chat of the latest political movement of the president, and, most of all, the people. Liz loved talking to people about what theyre most interested about. Nick knows some genuinely good people, despite what was thought by the press.
They walked in and almost immediately; she knew why Nick wanted her so dressed up.
"There's someone I want you to meet." Nick said, pushing through crowds of people keeping him from his prize. He brought her to a couple of guys who looked more down to earth than most. The one she noticed most was the blonde haired one. He was relaxed and seemed like he was just having a great time. He wore more formal clothes yet pulled off wearing a pair of jeans at the same time. Something about his stature spoke to her.
"This is James Hetfield."
"Hi, nice to meet you." She spoke softly.
"My pleasure," he said as he kissed her hand, his blue eyes piercing her mind like none other.
"And this is Lars Ulrich. Guys, this is my girlfriend, Liz."
Lars was shorter than James and Nick but something about him made you want to hug him. A pretty girl, who he had his arm around, accompanied him. They were a cute couple and both of them had a smile on their face as if they were about to start giggling and would never be able to stop.
"This is my girlfriend, Simone. Weve been together for about 4 months now." said Lars, who actually started giggling and looked at her lovingly.
"Well, Nicky-poo, you took so long, we have to go! Were going to attend dinner with Simones parents." Lars explained. He picked Simone up and held her in his arms, kissed her, and carried her away. "See ya!"
James laughed and turned back to their diminishing group.
"Rob and Kirk are out of town. Robs having his second kid, and Kirk is out at his ranch. Again. He smiled But Im glad I could come. Its great to see you guys" He glanced at Liz with that uncanny gaze
"Where's Fran?" Nick inquired, "Is she out of town or something? "
"Well, shes got the kids tonight. Were going through some things, but Im sure everything will be back to normal soon. James replied, with a sad look in his eye. I wouldnt ever want to lose my family..."
"No, of course not. Nick replied, with other things on his mind. Im going to talk to the boys over there," and he walked away.
"Thats sad, about you and Fran, I mean," Liz fumbled for her words. Rarely was she ever at a loss for words. She naturally had a knack for saying the right thing and was seldom nervous. However, something about James just made her forget her usual, 'manslaying' ways.

Re: So Sad to Say
With small talk, Liz discovered that James was easy to converse with and incredibly intelligent. She rarely came across this simply because she’s found intellects are few and far between, especially with fame. Not that those stars she’s known aren’t smart, it’s just a true intellect is hard to find, and fame and intellect usually don’t harmonize. She sat comfortably in a squishy crimson armchair situated in Nick’s living room, and James was sprawled in a cobalt loveseat. (Nick isn’t very knowledgeable about interior design). Nick was talking to his other Backstreet boys about their new tour, and James and Liz went completely into depth about aeronautics, the finer points in engineering, and cars.
“I actually have a red Dodge Viper, white racing stripes. Vipers are the only cars that should have racing stripes.” Liz exclaimed. She loved that car.
“Yeah, really” James agreed “Man, those things look F*cking awesome!”
“Thanks!” Liz replied, “I like it.”
Finally Liz had the nerve to ask the question she’d been contemplating for years and holding back for an hour.
“What were you thinking about when you guys came up with Orion?” She inquired softly.
James laughed and looked at her for a while. “To be honest, I don’t really remember. You’ve been wanting to ask me that for awhile, haven’t you?”
She laughed “As the matter of fact, yes. I didn’t want to seem like every other fan. But I guess you know that now. I’ve loved your music since I was a kid.”
James glanced over at Nick and responded, “I’m guessing he doesn’t know?”
Liz laughed, “No, I haven’t gotten around to telling him. You’d think that music would be a big part in our lives seeing he’s a singer, but it’s not. I just can’t live without music though. That’s what the Viper is for, so I can go somewhere and just listen to music.” She adjusted in her chair “It’s just food for your soul, you know? I mean, you of all people would know. It moves you. It creates feeling in you.”
James replied pensively, ”I know. I don’t think a lot of people would be where they are if it hadn’t been for music. And I’m not just talking musicians. Artists, Engineers, Scientists, do you think music has influence on their work?”
“Oh, I’m sure!” Liz retorted
They talked for a while longer until they were interrupted by James’ phone. The ring somewhat familiar to Liz. He excused himself and went to talk in another room. Liz sat back in her chair and thought about the fruit of their conversation.
Liz knew James was back in the room without losing her thought. She looked up into his blue eyes.
“That was Fran. She needs me to come pick up the kids.” He looked at her with his piercing gaze “I had a great time talking to you. Here’s my business card. It's got my address and phone number on it and if you ever need anything, anything at all, don't hesitate to call.” He smiled and walked away. Liz absorbed his receding figure. She’d never seen someone who held himself that way. It was almost surreal and unusually seductive.
“Where’s he off to?”
Liz’s daze was interrupted by Nick’s question. She was almost mad at him for doing so.
“He’s off to pick up his kids.” She stood up and gave Nick a hug. “We’ll have kids someday, right?”
Nick responded hesitantly. “Um, Sure”
The rest of that night, Liz resided in that squashy crimson armchair while Nick attended to other company. She was completely content in replaying what had happened in her mind. She took the business card out and looked at it several times, almost as if she expected it to tell her what to do if she looked at it enough. She listened to Lana while she talked for a while about Versace and why Louis Vitton had such success. Lana had to leave and eventually the crowd at Nick’s house grew smaller and only a couple of his friends were left. The last few said their goodbyes, and Nick picked up Liz and walked upstairs to their bedroom. There, he laid her down on the bed and began to kiss her. She allowed it for a while but something was on her mind and she finally pushed him away.
“Can’t we ever have an evening where we just talk?” She inquired, knowing there was so much more to be discussed than what met the eye.
“We do, don’t we? Like tonight!” He responded, “I thought tonight we talked fine.”
“Yeah,” She said and looked away. “I just don’t think we talk enough”
“Sure, we do.” Nick said with a hint of anger on his voice.
“Nick, what’s wrong?” she asked, “Why are you getting angry?”
“I’m not” He got up and started pacing the room. ”We get along fine. Just like Brian and Leighanne, just like Kevin and Kelly. ”
“Nick, we’re not like them though. We’re two different people. You can’t compare us and them.”
“Don’t try to tell me what I can and cannot do.” Nick responded angrily. “You don’t own me” He almost spit those last words.
“Who in the heIl do you think you are?” Liz was pissed. Few had the nerve to speak to her that way. “You may have fame and money but that doesn’t mean that you are better than anyone else. You’re just the same as anybody. You can’t treat people like sh!t and think it’s okay.”
Nick slapped her.
“Don’t dare speak to me that way. No one speaks to me that way.”
Liz was livid. She had never in her life been touched in a malicious way.
“Don’t touch me. I’ll call the cops and you’ll be arrested. Again.”
“Don’t have so much faith. The cops love me. When I got my second arrest, we talked a little bit and they got new choppers for wiping my record clean and cleared me. They won’t touch me again.”
“Well, that still doesn’t mean you can slap me.”
“I can do whatever I want”
He punched her. She trembled as she realized that she really had no power over him whatsoever. He could kill her if he wanted. There was nothing she could do. The pain finally hit her and she silently started to sob.
“I’m sorry, you’re right.” She sobbed quietly. Never had she felt such helplessness.
“That’s better” Nick responded and he took off his shirt. He walked into the bathroom and she crawled out of the bedroom. Thinking fast, she stood up, a little shakily at first, and started to walk down the stairs. She shed her stilettos and silently walked outside into the cool night air. She found the keys in her purse to her Viper she had left at his house from the night before. She backed out and sped away as fast as she could without attracting attention.
She drove for what seemed like hours until she realized she had no destination in mind. Where can I turn? She thought. Who would believe me? Obviously the cops are out of the question. All my family is out of town. All my friends, except Lana, were through Nick and would help him before me. Even Lana at this point was so infatuated with fame. Liz knew if she told Lana, she would go to the press and make nick even more pissed. Then he would come after her. She needed to go somewhere. Somewhere safe. With someone she could trust.
She had an idea. She pulled out the business card, made a U- turn, and sped away.

Re: So Sad to Say
Liz pulls on to Diregon Street, speeding past the stop sign out of fear. It was the dead of night, anyway, so no one would know. Looking at the business card in the damp light provided by street lights, she deciphered the address. Directions were as simple as it stated, but she had to turn around a few times. But it was okay because no one would expect her here. She finally came to the driveway she thought was the right one. This paved space was unusually long, distorted by both distance and imagination.
When she stepped out of her car and approached the ranch style beige house, she quickened her pase. Her nose began to bleed and blood dripped upon her ivory dress. She quickly stepped up to the door and rang the doorbell several times as to hurry the occupant. The door opened and there stood James in drawstring pajama pants and a tank top, which revealed and accented his rugged figure. He looked somewhat tired, yet when he saw her he instantly was alert.
"What's happened to you!?"
"H-he h-hit me" and she wept.
James quickly hugged her and queried
"Who hit you?"
"Nick.... Nick did.." Liz said softly, embarrased by her own words. She greatly appreciated the warm comfort he provided. Stepping back to lead her inside, he showed her to a black leather couch situated in his living room and sat her down. "I'll be right back" said he as he left the room briefly, only to return with water and a box of Kleenex.
He offered her tissues and she dried her eyes and wiped the blood from her nose. at this, she recognised the blood on her dress and on James.
"Oh, I'm so sorry," she said.
He moved closer to her and gingerly wrapped his arms around her.
"It'll be okay, I promise."
He ran his fingers through her hair and told her she was safe.
Somehow, that fear was gone and she had suddenly felt more home than she ever felt in L.A.

Re: So Sad to Say
Liz woke up to the smell of slightly burnt bacon. She glanced around the dark room in search for James. She found instead the shades that were shut as to prevent her from waking. It was obviously morning, judging by the fresh light that made its way through the dark shades, yet The bedsheets were soft and comfortable. She had a hard time deciding wether or not she should go look for James or roll over and go back to sleep. She rolled over and thought about the night before; that night, she had slept like never before. James had brought her to his room and given her a shirt of his to wear. It was large and flannel and soft, and she enjoyed the too-long sleeves dangling past her hands. He had told her that he was going to sleep on the couch, which he did, until Liz found that she could not sleep and summoned him to hold her til she slept. After she started snoring and it was obvious she was past fear, he did not leave simply because he had fallen asleep too.
He was comfortable doing this because he had recently had a lot of trouble with his wife, Fran. She had started seeing someone else, and they were currently going through not only troubles and custody of the children. This had been very tragic for him and had overcome him in the past few months, and this was a much needed escape from the reality of things. He had lied awake on the couch thinking about how much things had change with his life, and Liz's call was a much welcome change in scenery.
Liz decided to get up and find James. True, the crimson sheets of the four poster bed had been calling her back and the feather spread dared her not to leave, but she was hungry and more she turned over the more she wanted to find what he was up to. She got up out of bed and followed the smell of homecooked breakfast to a kitchen that took her breath away. The cabnets were made of deep cherry and almost stretched to the vaulted ceiling. Everything was made out of stainless steel, except for the fridge which she could not find. The countertops were a dark corian and forest tile served as the floor and the backsplash. And the biscuts, bacon, and sliced potatoes that had drawn her out of bed lay on a table cloth over a large wooden table. Best of all, there was the mighty Hetfield, at the stove, donning those drawstring pajamas flipping eggs.
Noticing her presence, he turned around and said,
"Good morning, sunshine. I burnt the bacon a little bit but it should be okay."
"Thanks for doing this. You didn't have cook. Fran is a lucky girl to wake up to breakfast in the morning," she responded, unable to mask the awe in her voice.
"Oh, well, yeah, i guess." he said while flipping the eggs upon two different plates, grabbing forks and knives and bringing it to the table.
"Could you grab me an orange juice? You can have whatever you like. There's plenty of stuff in there."
"Sure" her eyes circled the island several times in search for the fridge, sure that she had simply overlooked it. It was a Refridgerator! Shouldn't she be able to find it? Dishwasher, cabnet, sink, cabnet stove.... no fridge... she was too embaressed to ask.
James laughed, walked over and pulled open a rather large cabnet.
"It's hidden. Sorry, i forgot to mention that. I don't have people over very often."
He laughed and she smiled, for he could make her no matter what she felt.
He grabbed himself a small bottle of orange juice and asked her "You want one too?"
She nodded and proceeded to sit down at the table.

Re: So Sad to Say
next one!! yay
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
James and Liz sat and talked over breakfast even after their plates were clean and washed. James had quickly washed the dishes after they were done, proving that the cleanliness of the kitched was caused soley by him. As he washed the dishes, she watched him from afar and enjoyed the sight of him cleaning from a distance. Once he was finished, he sat back down in the ebony chair that matched the one Liz was curled up in. They continued their conversation that they had over breakfast and the more Liz learned about James the more she wanted to know.
"If you could do any one thing in the world, what would it be, Regardless of circumstance?" asked Liz, as she shifted her weight. She tossed her warm blonde hair to the oppisite side of her head and listened intently for his response. She was seriously curious, and She felt those warm blue eyes pierce her thoughts as she spoke, welcoming every bit of it.
"Be a woman."
His answer took her aback, and she stifled a laugh. She she thought he would have answered differently.
"What? don't laugh" He made a pouty face. She could no longer hold back her laugh.
He pretended to ignore her laugh "Not for any length of time, just for a day. I just want to know what it's like."
She stopped laughing and smiled, taking in his gaze.
"What about you?" He questioned
"I love horses, and there's always been one type of horse that i've always wanted to just see in person. They're just so gorgeous, and they're realy hard to find. Just to see one, thats all I would want."
"What is it?" James asked curiously, masking a coy smile with curiosity.
"A Friesian."
They talked for a little while longer about things they could do if there were no boundries, until they reached the topic of which Liz had been fighting thought.
"What happened between you and Nick last night?" James hated to ask the question since he knew all too well what it was like to have to explain what had happened between one and their recently lost lover. He also knows how it feels to be holding those events from the world to try and save yourself, and how it eats you inside.
The question pierced her since she had refused to think of those events until now; her eyes welled with tears as she thought of the time she had quickly forgotten and she self-conciously touched her slightly swollen nose. She started off slowly in fear of lost composure.
"We were discussing our relationship," She sighed deeply to keep from a full onslaught of tears. "And i mentioned that i thought we didn't talk much" Reliving the memory cause her to shutter and a tear slid down her cheek. James' eyes widended, knowing what she was going through, and he moved closer to took her hand. "And I told him that he shouldnt treat people like sh!t and h-he got angry at me and told me that i shouldnt speak that way and..." She started trembling and put her face into her hands. James occupied the space next to her and put his arm around her slouched, trembling figure. he held her close and slid his fingers through her undone hair, stroking her cheek and assuring her all would be alright. Staring out the window of his large, lush property, he thought of what he could do to hurt Nick; she lay her head upon his shoulder, tears streamed down her face as she continued her story.
"Then.... he s-slapped me... I shoudln't- shoudln't have said anything. I shoudln't have-"
James interrupted with a touch of anger present in his words "He shouldn't have hit you, no matter what you said. He's an as$hole and he needs to f.ucking appreciate what he's got. I'll make sure he never hurts you again, i promise."
After this promise, Liz gradually ceased trembling and sighed deeply. The teardrops fell less and less at the sound of his words. He held her close giving her something she had so long deserved but had never gotten. She listened to his breathing and the sound of his heart. He listened to her distressed breaths and held her closer, craving revenge.
DING-DONG
The sound of the doorbell startled the two, and James gradually got up after the repeated offense of the doorbell, making sure Liz was okay situated on the couch in his livingroom. She rested on the black leather couch she to whom she had been aquainted with before, and she covered herself with a blanket offered to her from the arm of the sofa. As James walked to the door, she thought of all the possible visitors that could be at the door and she heard the dreaded door open.
