Standards.
I was listening to my iMod, on shuffle, and the Detroit Cobras' version of '99 and a half won't do' came on followed by The Redskin's version of the same song. I was trying to figure out which was my favourite version of this gospel standard.
So, have any of you got any favourites of blues, soul or jazz standards e.g.Baby Please Don't Go, Wade in the Water, Little Red Rooster etc? You know, the ones where there are LOADS of versions of.

YEH YEH do a version of 99 And Half, plus 'Treat Her Right' a-la 9 Below Zero. I'd really like to know the origins of 'Treat Her Right' and who else covered it.

Re: Standards.
Wasn't 'Treat Her Right' a Len Barry song? Ooh, I'll have to check with Mr. Google!

Re: Standards.
Yeah, I'm afraid there isn't a 'shame-faced' icon, or I'd be using it right now. One of my early '80s comp tapes had 'Treat Her Right' on just before Len Barry's '1-2-3', hence the confusion. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!
By way of an apology here's the man himself in action. Check out the dancing - based on Jackie Wilson's, apparently.
George Thorogood & The Destroyers (a group who trade in Blues and Soul standards) did a pretty good version, as well - with Roy dancing in their video!

I'm sorry but a honky just can't carry that kind of dancing off.. on the plus side though here's a link to Thorogood's version

A bit over the top 80's styling but still a great version IMHO.

Trust me on this one - you've got to hear it to believe it!
Comin' Home Baby (Mel Torme) by Peters & Lee.
Honest it's great and available on their Favourites LP for about 50p from any self respecting charity shop!

Re: Standards.
You played that on Modradio Ash, there were a good few of us in the chatroom and you made us guess who it was. Amazing, stuff.
