posticon sightings

all of these are from this year

California-09-12-The witness was driving along the Arroyo Parkway, and while waiting to make a turn onto Filmore Avenue, he suddenly felt like looking up. What he saw was amazing-an object which was spinning, circular-shaped, and silver in color. This was a classic UFO with lights around the outside, and a dome-like top. The UFO was several hundred feet above him and as long a football field. The man was shocked by the size of the object, and had it not been for heavy traffic, he would have stopped and got out to get a better look. Shortly, the UFO flew away in the direction of Cal Tech. source: www.mufon.com

California-08-12-Three men were camping just south of Shelter Cove in Sinkyou State Park. About 10:00 PM, one of the three went to sleep, while the other two sat and looked at the stars. They watched a satellite go over, and were hoping to spot a shooting star. Soon, they were shocked to see a "strobe-like" flash from a distant object off of the coast heading their way. As it came closer, it veered off to the right, and the two friends could clearly see a set of triangle-shaped lights on the bottom of the craft. Unlike a few planes that had flown over earlier, the triangle was totally silent. As they watched the UFO move down the coast, a second craft joined the flight. The witness who made the report has lived close to military installations all of his life, and has never seen anything like the two triangle objects of August 12. source: www.mufon.com

Illinois-09-16-The reporter of the sighting was alerted to a series of small, yet bright flashing lights in the lower northeastern sky of Illinois at 9:45 PM. These lights were white, green, and red in color. At first, the witness thought he was seeing a star which was emitting lights because of atmospheric conditions, but the sky was clear. The formation that were created by the unusual lights was much larger than any star. Finally, the lights began to move in formation, and took almost an hour to leave the field of view. source: www.mufon.com

Indiana-09-12-The witness saw in the northern sky a number of unexplainable lights. They were filling the sky with dozens of strobe lights, much too close together to be aircraft. About every twenty minutes, the strobe effect would appear as a bright star with static light. This object would then hover, and move in a circular pattern. At times, the unusual formation would strobe in various patterns as if orchestrated. The witness took video of the event, and is still editing it for public view and workable size. source: www.mufon.com

Washington-09-13-The witness was beginning a work shift as 7:30 AM and making rounds with his employees. While outside and talking to an employee, he was urged to look to the skies. He was amazed to see two, circular objects of silver sitting side by side. They appeared as two headlights on an automobile, and were moving to the northeast. Soon, a third object appeared from nowhere, identical to the other two UFOs. Soon, four or five more UFOs appeared. At this time, the two men called other employees outside to see the unusual craft moving through the sky. Soon, more workers came out, and all in all about 30 UFOs were spotted in the sky. The objects were discussed the rest of the work day by all who saw them. Planes were also seen coming from Midway Airport, and the observers say the pilots had to have seen the UFOs. source: www.mufon.com

Great Britain-09-15-A man and his girlfriend were traveling from Waterloo station to Wimbledon station via train at about 4:30 PM on a sunny day. There were only a few low, thin clouds to mar a perfectly clear sky. While looking out the window, the man saw 7 objects of a silver-white color. They were below the thin, low clouds. Arriving at the station, they got off to get a better look. From the loading platform, they could now see a total of 18 unknown objects, with one being larger than the rest. The man took several photographs of the objects, but has not yet developed them. As the two travelers boarded another train, the objects were still visible in the sky.

UFO sightings bring town to a standstill

A crowd of 100 stunned stargazers brought a town centre to a standstill when five mysterious UFOs were spotted hovering in the sky.

Drinkers spilled out of pubs, motorists stopped to gawp and camera phones were aimed upwards as the five orbs, in a seeming formation, hovered above Stratford-Upon-Avon for half an hour.

The unidentified flying objects lit up the otherwise clear night sky above Shakespeare's birthplace in Warwickshire on Saturday.

{R}

Although Air Traffic Control reported no unusual activity, some witnesses were convinced they were witnessing an extra-terrestrial spectacle.

The strange episode started just after 10.30pm, when the lights were seen hovering slowly over the town before three of them formed a triangular shape with one positioned just to the right.

A few minutes later a fifth came into view travelling towards the others at breakneck speed before slowing down and stopping a short distance away.

Sceptics dismissed the UFOs as nothing more than hot air balloons, fireworks or even lanterns which had broken loose from a local rugby club.

Others, however, claimed the speed and agility of the objects was unlike any known aircraft and said the odd movement, lack of noise and the length of time in the air discounted any man-made explanation.

Tom Hawkes, who captured these amazing images, spotted the lights during his girlfriend Kate Lyall's birthday at the One Elm pub.

He and the 15 other revellers were in the bar when they spotted some commotion outside.

Tom, 30, said: "We walked outside and there was at that time a growing crowd of about 60 people looking up at something in the sky.

"I saw this light appear, then three others. They came over our heads in formation but then manouvered into different positions.

"Three had formed a triangular shape and one was to the right. Then another one came hurtling towards the rest at what looked like a very fast speed. But as it neared them it suddenly slowed and stopped altogether.

"By this time more people had poured out onto the street. Two pubs had emptied, some people had come out of their houses and drivers slowed their cars.

"The objects were there for about half an hour. It was very eerie because they didn't make any sound and they stayed still before moving slowly beyond the horizon. There were no stars in the sky, just them.

"It was the most extraordinary thing I've ever seen and the way in which everyone gathered in the street to watch them reminded me of a scene from Independence Day."

The extraordinary scenes were also witnessed by some of the staff of the One Elm pub.

Chef Kern Griffiths, 26, said: "I saw five lights, we all thought they were hot air balloons at first because the glowing spheres looked like a burst of flames. But I couldn't see any outline of the balloon itself and they were travelling far too fast.

"Suddenly someone shouted 'look' and there were these bright dots fizzing across the sky.

"It was weird, they way they moved did look alien. Some people reckon they're fireworks but they were lit up in the sky for far too long, the local rugby club say they were lanterns that blew loose over the weekend but these objects were far too fast and too high up.

"They were unlike any aircraft I've seen. It's a mystery."

Hillary Potter from The British Earth Aerial Mystery Society (BEAMS) said they were being inundated with similar calls from across the country but said it was rare for such phenomena to be witnessed by so many people.

She said: "Such incidents have been on the increase recently. There are reports at the moment coming in from all over the country.

"We've had many reports of people seeing quite large unidentified objects in the skies. It's not going away, It seems these incidents are becoming more bold.

"People don't know what to do when they witness such sights and that's what we're here for. We take the reports very seriously."

A Mod Spokesman said: "The MoD does not have any expertise or role in respect of UFOs or flying saucer matters or to the question of the existence of extra terrestrial life forms, about which we remain totally open minded.

"I should add that to date the MoD knows of no evidence which substantiates the existence of these alleged phenomena. The MoD examines any reports of unidentified flying objects it receives solely to establish whether what was seen might have some defence significance.

"Namely whether there is any evidence that the UK air space might have been compromised by hostile or unauthorised foreign military activity.

"Unless there is evidence of a potential threat to the United Kingdom from an external military source, and to date no UFO report has revealed such evidence, we do not attempt to identify the precise nature of each sighting reported to us.

"We believe that rational explanations such as aircraft lights or natural phenomena could be found for them if resources were diverted for this purpose but its not the function of the MoD to provide this kind of aerial identification service."

Frankie Spray, from Wellesbourne Airfield, just outside Stratford, added: "The lights were nothing to do with us. None of our aircraft fly at night at this time of year.

"It's very bizarre but I've got no explanation as to what the lights were."

Birmingham Air Space which covers the skies over the town said they had not heard of any unusual activity showing up on the radar.

Re: sightings

It has the shape of an anvil. I noticed it only while scanning the picture on my computer. The photo was taken with a Nikon digital camera Coolpix S3.
It was on the same day when I had another object on the photo taken near Twickenham (submitted on MUFON website 9/11/07) just half an hour before.
Image
My husband, my brother, my sister-in-law and I were vacationing at a coastal house in Bodega Bay, CA (about two hours north of San Francisco). We were watching the sun set over the ocean and preparing to watch the clear night sky, so we had big binoculars (16X70) set up on a tripod on the west-facing patio. Moments after sunset (which occurred at 7:15 p.m., [see photo “100_1605[1]sunset”], while the sky at the horizon was still orangey, we noticed a very bright orange/gold streak moving at a slightly upward angle in a north-to-south direction .
At arm’s length and measuring between thumb and forefinger, the streak early on was about an inch above the horizon. We then looked at it through the binoculars and we saw not only the streak, but a dark, somewhat elongated object that was rounded at the leading edge of what we then called a “trail”. Over the next minute or two, the trail got to be about four inches long (as measured above) and the object took up a good ¼ to ½ inch of that measurement. We continued to see the trail but not the object with the naked eye.

A minute or two after we first saw the trail, the object/trail appeared to stop and hover in place for another 10 minutes or so, but the trail did not dissipate at all like a vapor trail would. (Since we were facing west, it's also possible the object was not hovering but rather moving west to east or east to west after it appeared to stop.) We could see the trail and the "unmoving" object for a total of 10 minutes or so until it got too dark to see through the binoculars. The pictures we took do not even begin to show the brightness of the trail.

Based on the "distance to horizon" calculator on the Internet, we estimated the distance to the object was about 15.5 nautical or 17.9 statute miles. (We did a Google Earth calculation that showed our rental house was 172 feet above sea level and, adding the five-foot height of the tripod, resulted in a "height of eye" of 177 feet.) If the object was almost 18 miles away, the object would have to be quite large to appear as big as it did, even though it required binoculars to see it.

Our collective conclusion was that the object was too big to be any kind of airplane and that the trail was not a vapor trail. The way the object appeared to stop and hover, and the fact that the trail did not dissipate, were also very strange. Maybe it was some kind of missile, but we sure can’t figure it out. None of us had ever seen such a thing.

Re: sightings

Texas-12-26-07-I was traveling south on I-35 near McNeil Road on my way to work at US postal facility. I noticed a bright object approximately 30 meters to my right and parallel to my window. I did not think, I just observed the object and still have no idea, what it was. The object was bright, and approximately 12-16 inches in diameter. I first noticed a downward motion and then an object traveling parallel (eye level/same speed) to my truck for several miles. After the fact, I reviewed the incident: comparing it to a meteor: color, speed, trails, and motions. The object then moved slowly down and to the right behind a tree line.

Re: sightings

a turkish ufo

Subject: UFO Sighting - Location: Istanbul, Turkey - Date: 1994 - Time: 7:00 PM - Witnesses: 1 - Number of Objects: 1 - Object's Shape: Light - Object had an Aura or Haze around it - Object hovered - Additional Information: Overlooking the Bosphorus -
Event Description:
This happened to me when I was about 12. I had moved from France a couple of years back, and was now living in Istanbul, on the European side, up on the hillside overlooking the Bosphorus.

A school assignment I had involved mapping out the stars every night. One of
these nights it happened. At first I noticed an unusual light on the opposite hillside across the strait. It appeared peculiar for some reason, so I decided to dedicate my attention to it.

At first I thought it could have been a truck, but it moved slowly down the hill obviously over homes and trees, and not on any roads. Then I thought it was a helicopter, but it was much too close to the ground, and was not moving in a manner such a craft would be doing.

It kept going past the shore and over the water until it disappeared out of my sight. Nothing that peculiar had yet happened, so I ignored it, until....This huge oval of light appeared coming up from below my yard. It slowly hovered over this large tree across my lawn. The event was so shocking and amazing, I could not help myself but stare. It had stopped above the tree, and was close enough so I saw the leaves and branches
ruffle. The light was enormous, much bigger than my tree, I would estimate it to have been 8 meters high and 15 across. The light wasn't bright enough to blind me. It appeared to be brightest in the center of it, and turned more yellowish as it got to the edges. It emanated greenish yellowish light across my lawn.

After a few seconds of just remaining over the tree, it suddenly took off again, this time at an incredible rate of speed, and went behind my house and sight.

I ran across my house screaming for my family about what happened, and tried to catch
sight of it again on the other side of my house, but it was gone.

I can firmly vouch for my soberness, emotional clarity, and general awareness of my
surrounding and the situation; this did happen.

I have considered researching into the event a little further, because I am certain this must have been seen by a vast number of people, maybe even reported somewhere.

I don't the extent of research you guys would/can do, but I'm thinking that looking into the Turkish newspapers describing events in Istanbul during that period of time would maybe bring up some kind of sighting report.

Re: sightings

UFO Seen Over O’Hare Airport

On November 7, 2006, a UFO was seen directly over O’Hare Airport in Chicago by several personnel of United Airlines. An initial report was made to the National UFO Reporting Center, and an investigation was begun by the National Aviation Reporting Center on Anomalous Phenomena, led by Dr. Richard Haines.

The object sighted was small and round or disc-shaped. It was seen directly over Terminal C just before dusk. The first report came from an employee engaged in pushing back United Flight 446 from the gate for departure.

After hovering in place for a few minutes below low cloud cover, the object rose vertically and rapidly into the cloud deck, which was at about 1900 feet. The UFO appeared to leave a “hole” in the clouds where it entered, as has been reported in a few other UFO sightings.

Other witnesses have come forward in the two months since the sighting, including both more United personnel and people flying that day. The Chicago Tribune assigned a reporter to the story, and he wrote a comprehensive account of the case that was published on January 1.

On January 2 the Chicago Sun Times carried a short story about the incident, quoting FAA spokeswoman Elizabeth Isham Cory that “Our regulations cover safety of flight—if we didn’t see anything, what would we investigate?” That comment is rather incredible, on several levels. The FAA usually doesn’t “see” any safety problem directly, but instead through reports from aircraft manufacturers, airline personnel, or FAA inspectors, often doing investigation. Evidence may only turn up after an investigation, but you certainly are guaranteed not to find anything if you don’t investigate. Taken literally, any reports of near misses between planes would also be unworthy of FAA investigation, since the agency didn’t “see anything.”

Further bureaucratic bumbling, or worse, by government agencies was reported in the Tribune story. The FAA initially denied that that they had any information on the incident when first contacted by reporter Jon Hilkevitch. United did the same. Both changed their story after it was clear that Hilkevitch was determined to learn about the incident, and he filed a FOIA request to the FAA for their data.Listen to an interview on National Public Radio with Hilkevitch.

Finally, note the lack of interest by the FAA, or seemingly other government agencies, to a strange object hovering during daylight directly over O’Hare airport, seen and reported by official personnel. This despite the alleged higher level of security that now exists at U.S. airports. How is this possible, given the higher state of security after 9/11? What does this really say about the ability of the U.S. government to respond to threats in real time? We believe these questions are just as crucial as the central one of the identify of the object seen over O’Hare that day.
