1 September 2007 - Lyneal
"Last night (Saturday September 1st), whilst returning across the Fernwood caravan park nr Lyneal N Shropshire, my wife and I saw strange lights in the sky whilst holidaying in the area.
The light started as a glow in the cloud, then swept around to the right to form a cluster of individual lights which then began to twirl as if the whole cloud base was moving to and fro, left and right, then sweeping bask left to form a glow in the sky again.
The light/s was mono/white light, and this pattern of movement and spinning carried on for some fifteen minutes, and was continuing as I carried on to bed.
The time was approx. 10:30, and I can confirm this as I tried to take a video on my mobile phone which was unsuccessful, but which is timed at 22:26 01:09:07.
I called a neighbour and asked him to verify that I was not seeking things before retiring, consoling myself that the sighting was probably some form of laser light show from a dance event (or some such), especially as the pattern was so repetitive."

31 October 2003 - Shropshire
A very interesting case, reported to us by "TN" (pseudonym):
"I have been looking around the Internet this evening trying to discover whether something which I saw early on Friday might have been seen by anyone else and mentioned here.
My sighting was whilst walking with my dog along a main road called Castlefields Way which joins with the A442 en route into the West Midlands.
It was about 6,45am when my dog alerted me to something on the horizon. I don't have brilliant eyesight, but I could see what appeared to be a stationary airliner. I cannot say how far away it was but I would estimate it was as high as a helicopter would be in the sky. It looked as though it was just suspended there!
I stopped to look and hoped that someone might be about to see what my dog and I could see.
The object was rod or cigar shaped and appeared to have possibly small lights or something like lights along the side but it was difficult with my eyesight to discern what they were. At one point it came from behind a cloud and certainly looked a lot bigger than I first estimated. I can best describe the colour as silver but at the same time it appeared to have areas that were a pale blue (certainly a strange colour and it appeared in parts to be metallic).
It travelled across towards the A442 and then seemed to go up (horizontally) and fly off at an angle towards North East Telford.
I have never seen anything like before and for a few moments I did wonder if I was dreaming but then of course my dog saw it also. It's interesting to note that my dog seemed obviously disturbed by the presence of this thing."
We are grateful to TN for his help in investigating this event, and it is certainly interesting that his dog - a very intelligent border collie - seem to perceive the object before TN, and it should be noted that the dog doesn't normally take nay notice of aircraft. Is it significant that a dog has a hearing range that is much higher then humans - did this object emit a noise that had something of a dog-whistle effect? TN elaborated on the object:
"There were no visible signs of wings or anything like the rear part of a normal airliner. The best likeness I can give is to those silver containers which hold one expensive cigar - if you know what I mean? Or perhaps that small slim line torch used by Doctors etc [small Maglite - Ed]"
This event took on more mysterious aspects when TN happened to mention the sighting to a family friend - who works as a radar operator at nearby RAF Cosford. This friend was clearly disturbed, and suggested that TN "should not mention what he saw" - the classic 'forget it' response, but why? Does this reaction suggest a known black project vehicle?

26th August 2001 - Ellesmere
From ‘Silma’:
“Last night 26 August 2001 at about 11:00 pm, five of us were sitting on the patio and all saw a sudden bright object in the north eastern area of the sky. It became the brightest object in the night sky, thus it caught the attention of us all at the same time.
We watched and commented on it for a few moments and then it appeared to move back and to the right. It's brightness faded very quickly as it moved, at what appeared to be at extreme speed. Within seconds it had disappeared.
Now, a few weeks ago, I myself had seen the same kind of phenomena from my garden, in approximately the same area of the sky. When I dashed in to get my binoculars, I came out to find it was in the process of moving away at speed losing its great brightness very, very quickly.
The area is North Shropshire in the UK. I and my friends would like to find out if anyone may know what this phenomena might be.”
This is one case, which we were able to solve fairly quickly and easily. The report certainly suggested a sighting of an Iridium flare, but of course this need to be checked against a database with fairly accurate ground co-ordinates. Thankfully, Silma has a strong interest in astrology, and knew the precise location of her home, so this allowed us to search Chris Peat’s immensely useful ‘Heavens Above’ website database – and we got a result:
The likely satellite was Iridium 49, details as follows:
Local Time: 23.04.52"; Intensity: -6 magnitude; Alt (elevation): 18 degrees; Azimuth: 32 degrees (NNE); Distance to flare center: 8.3 km (W)
Silma was able to confirm:
“Just to say thanks very much for your recent time and effort to explain about the Iridium Flare, certainly most interesting. Your description was accurate enough to confirm that what we saw was indeed that particular satellite.”
If only all cases were that easy to solve! What I liked most about Silma was that she was happy to be told of a mundane explanation for her own sighting – all too many witnesses become convinced that they have really seen something ‘alien’, and don’t necessarily want to hear ‘the facts’.
