Re: Dark World

How does the Dark World feature work?

I understand you must raise the Dark Energy Index to a certain level to open up a portal to the Dark World on a map, but what happens after that?

What determines what amount of Dark Energy Index amount is enough to open a portal? Is it the same amount for every map in the game, or a different amount for every map in the game?

Does the portal appear on the map? Do I have to walk into the portal? Or do I enter the Dark World automatically upon raising the Dark Energy Index sufficiently? Do I have to leave, then return to the map after raising the Dark Energy Index for the portal to appear?

What does the Dark World look like? Is it a whole separate map from the one from which I accessed it? Or is it the same map I accessed it from, but with different graphics? Is there different background music?

How will I know whether I'm actually in the Dark World, or not?

Wow. Lots of questions. Okay then...

Same as the item world in Disgaea, random dungeons in Phantom Brave, and free dungeons in Makai Kingdom. Just random stages that are good for leveling and gear.

A portal will appear on each visit afterwards that will take you to the Dark World.

I think that it's 101 DEI to open a portal. This is the same for every map. There are exceptions, because sometimes maps (most commonly "The Gods Ordeal") will open a portal at 0 DEI. The monsters inside are in low single-digit levels though.

Yes, it appears on the map. Yes, you have to walk into it. No, you can still play the map normally and avoid the portal. Yes, you have to leave after raising the DEI and then come back for the portal to appear.

If you've ever played the Alternate Netherworld maps in Disgaea (or seen pictures of them at least), each of those maps is a possible "skin" for the Dark World. The Dark World is simply a collection of randomly generated maps with random enemies whose levels are dependant on the DEI of the portal. There is background music for the Dark World, but it's only one track.

If you have 300 DEI and the enemies are level 500ish, that's a pretty good clue =P Seriously though, you'll know.
