La Pucelle
This is my first time writing a game review, so I'll keep it short and sweet.
First off, La Pucelle is only the second tactics game I've ever played. So I may be positively biased here. Anyway, here goes...
Gameplay-
Overall the game play is fun and fairly easy to pick up on, except when being forced to level up in order to beat two super strong bosses. The chapter 4 & 8 bosses. Battles can seem boring at first, but once the crew gets more skills, the action heats up nicely...much more so than I ever expected from a tactics game. Getting lost or not knowing where to go is pretty much impossible, which is a good thing in my book.
Soundtrack-
Repetitive dungeon themes get pretty annoying after about chapter 4 or so. However, there are some nice emotional & situational pieces in the game. Also, the boss battle and final dungeon themes are pretty cool. I really like both of those songs. Makes me wish I could find the OST...unless the other CD has those two songs and the one that plays in the Castle Courtyard on it.
Story-
Heavily cliched, but good. Cliches don't bother me at all. Heck I consider some of them to be a good thing. The story is pretty good, better and more in depth than Atelier Iris 3 in my opinion and I loved that game. The characters are all very enjoyable and fun to play as. The characters & story remind me a lot of GUST's games, though the final confrontation was pretty weak in my opinion.
Visuals-
Not bad, but not great either. The sprites look a bit fuzzy on screen, as does some of the text and backround portions. The character artwork was nice though.
Difficulty-
Save for two bosses, there really isn't any to speak of. The only hard parts were trying to get the good ending in chapter 9, (or was it 10?) and beating the powerhouse bosses in chapter 4 & 8. That said, I had a real hard time with the chapter 2 boss, because my stats were way too low at the time. Oh, and I never used Braveheart once. Mainly because I never aquired the ability and it wasn't needed.
Fun Factor-
Now for what really matters! Is this game fun to play? Heck yea! The game has an entertaining story, with very entertaining and often times funny characters. There were a couple of times I busted out laughing thanks mainly to Prier's wise*** remarks. She's definitely the main comic relief in this game, though the others contribute their share. Alouette had a really good wise crack late in the game. I was like "hell yea!" when she said it. She finally broke her 'held back' wording and it was good stuff. Getting to fight as the Dark Prince was sweet! Even if he was a boss later on.
The music fits the game nicely, though I wish there would be more actionish music. Also, having to learn how to correctly pull off mass miracles is pretty rough.
As of now, I have only completed one dark world trip & I have not beaten any of the Cave of Trials maps yet.
