Shining Tears

Has anyone played this game? It's a pretty awesome 3-D Celshading Chibi action/adventure game by SEGA. This game is part of the Shining Series. The games like Shining Force, Shining Soul, etc.

Story: Original story; a nice work by SEGA. Throughout the story, I've become addicted to what happens to the rings and why Xion (the main character) is affected in different ways by teaming up with different people. 7/10

Gameplay: Awesome gameplay. Very unique in it's skills with every character. Passive skills seem to be the most important. The action is simply addicting! Also a two-player action game, so you can fight the forces of evil with another player ^^! The game gets crazy! If you get far enough, hundreds and hundreds of enemies swarm the screen (comes with slowdown though...), and you begin to struggle to spot where your characters are! 9/10

Controls: I've had only a few problems with controls. When you play single player, it's pretty uncomfortable to control two people while trying to fend off hundreds of soldiers coming at you! All it takes is some getting used to and you'll be fine. 6/10

Overall: It's definetely a game worth having! Especially playing with two players; it's the most fun both of you will have. It's pretty rare where I am, so I'm not expecting too many people to have it or hear about it. 8/10

Re: Shining Tears

I wasted $50 buying that crappy game when I could have used it for Atelier Iris! Well, it isn’t CRAPPY, but it should only be bought by those who LOVE RPGs. I LOVE RPGs yet I still didn’t enjoy Shining Tears. Here’s my review:

Story: N.I.O, you say the story is original but it’s so bland, cliché, and boring. The main character is an amnesiac who just happens to join a group that has connections to the past wars. Like we didn’t see that coming. The characters were all cliché too. You have the balanced main character who fights evil, the preppy cat girl, the big strong guy, etc. The characters, as well as the story were underdeveloped severely. 4/10

Gameplay: You were right about the gameplay, but it focuses too much on passive abilities and equipment. 7/10

Controls: The controls were fine. Nothing special, nothing crappy. 10/10

Overall: Don’t buy this game unless you want all RPGs in the world or if you have people to play with. Even then, I’d much rather prefer Tales of Destiny. 6/10

Ugh... Shining Tears.

The game was mediocre, at best. Nothing more. The game moves at an incredibly slow pace, and I've gotten frustrated at this aspect.

There were other problems, but the main thing was that the game just didn't have anything new to offer gamers.

The one cool aspect was the fact that you could play it with a friend, and is one of the only co-operative multiplayer, single console RPGs I can think of. Too bad nobody wanted to play this with me.

I'd give it a 5 on a scale of 10.

If you're looking for a Shining branded action-RPG done right, you should check out Shining Force Neo. This game really surprised me, considering how dissapointed I was with Tears...

Alright, the truth is I wanted the game to look better than it really was...
I really admired the Shining series, but Tears wasn't one that really made it there. I was hoping to get "Yeah! This game was great!" and stuff, but now, I've seen it all (with just 2 posts...).

Um...the only real reason I was playing Shining Tears was because Tony Taka did the artwork. emoticon

Otherwise it's a mediocre RPG at best, and there are better ones out there too...

Indeed, the artwork by TONY was cool, but the game was pretty mediocre. I enjoyed playing it 2 player with a friend, but it took entirely too long to unlock the 2 player mode. (seems like it was 2 or 3 hours into the game).

Also, as with almost every US game, the english dubbing was horrid. My friend's daughter got a kick out of the dragon guy saying "I shall protect you!" in a deep voice, but other than that the voices sucked.

You might want to start running while you still have a chance. I'll watch your back >.>

Well I dunno why, but it seems like the only games with decent voice acting are games that were originally english to begin with. Ratchet & Clank, Jak & Daxter, God of War, etc all have excellent voice acting. Disgaea had relatively good voice acting as far as Japanese originated games go, but it wasnt nearly as good as the original Japanese voice track. There's just no comparison for Laharl or Flonne in Japanese. Dont even get me started on Thursday..
