Thanks. I dunno if it's a glitch, the result of saving my new file over my old clear file, or because nobody ever found that it could be done before (either cuz you need more subquests/synthesis finished before a clear game than after it, or because nobody ever returned to base after the scene at Selk's Cry)

Or you could just need clear data on your memory card. That could be a key factor.

But I saved over it, there is no Clear Data on it anymore. I guess we'll need to do a few experiments so we can get the full truth out.

Usually a Rpg with that has extras that come with clear data save a system file and a normal file. AS long as the data was there before started the new game it should still have the system file. Do you still have all the bonuses or are those gone as well?

They were all gone when I started up again.
Anyway, I've got a mother and best friend playing too and my best friend is as crazy for synthesis and subquests as me so I'll have a few people to test on (they never had system files on their memory cards). So between the two of us we should be able to figure out how this happened.

I haven't been able to play it for a few so I chaven't really made any progress. Still I'm going to complete thegame.
With them playing we'll find out in no time. I thought this would take at least 4 months.

Well my best friend and I don't always get together cuz of school and work, and my mother doesn't play much (READ: my father hogs the PS2) so it might take that long.
