Bug Report

List any bugs / errors you have noticed here, including but not limited to translation differences (big ones, not like small ommissions or "liberal" translations, but complete changes dialogue), formatting errors, and whatever else you come across

This thread may contain spoilers is dialogue examples are given, please mark them as such.

this is only for people who have purchased a legitimate US copy of the game. Don't report errors from the leak.

--Formatting problems on "reviews":
sometimes text for "reviews" in the shop synthesis go "off the card". I have encountered this at least once.

--Voices cut off in certain spots / at random (not sure which). I am not sure if the sample is cut short, of the game is just stopping the sample prematurely, or if its random / limited to specific dialogues but its annoying. I have only been playing with the Japanese track so i can only confirm it for that.

--Frequent "pauses" when an effect is about to occur, pause lasts less than a second, but the chop is noticable and shouldnt be present. can someone confirm that that happens in the original?
Very noticable in the opening sequence (when you start a new game, NOT the vocal opening movie)

--this is a big one folks: LANGUAGE PREFERENCE IS NOT SAVED. Set it to japanese, quit, reset and load, BAM english.

--Shop review system leads to very strange dialogue.
Townspeople change what they say based on shop reviews, so you may have someone commenting that "the Magic Shop's Medicine is very deadly odor", which makes no sense unless you consider the fact that they are playing mad libs with shop reviews behind the scenes :P

--Dialogue is "wrong" in some places:
I have had one instance where Lita was speaking in the Japanese dialogue and Klein's dialogue box was open with a different (but similar) line. The main difference in the lines was that it was supposed to be spoken from lita, obviously, but was changed(?) to klein asking a question sort of which got the same point across, but not quite.

--More dialogue niggles: the japanese dialogue when talking to the magic shop woman in the mission where you need to pick up tingleberries for norman (very beginning of the game) is totally different from the english. The japanese mentions that you were asked by norman to pick up the berries, while the english doesnt even TOUCH on that. A minor scene, but it makes me worry about future events. Liberal translation is one thing, just plain wrong is another.

..sigh...

I knew there was going to be one person who was going to whine about the little things in this game. Like this bug report even matters now, are you trying to give others a Buyer Beware sense?

Just asking.

What's wrong with that? it won't change the buyers decision. If he/she wants to list it they can.
As for me, I just bought my copy last night and haven't really have time to buy it. Sorry for not contributing to your thread.

Re: Bug Report

I think some synthesis cards are supposed to go off when you put some together. Some cards join together to form a new card. Sometimes you reach a limit of cards and the extra ones snap off.

I'm not one to nitpick about the translations. They are still pretty close to each other, good enough. Japanese and English don't exactly fold into each other that well.

The townspeople comments are randomly generated sentences with gaps which are filled in by the recipes and stuff. I love the deadly odour of it! Stuff like that. When they mention it like food and they are talking about Magic Paper or a Pendelook, it obviously doesn't make much sense. Its such a minor side thing, nothing to be bothered asbout. I for one if I made this, couldn't bother making several hundred sentences for each shop synthesized item to make it sound right.

The Japanese Audio thingy not being saved is a tad annoying. Although at one point it did save my BGM and Music Volume settings for some reason.

The game is a bit buggy. Voice stutters at times. When you enter a map, sometimes the data doesn't load right and you lag when you extract elements. But really, walk out and walk back in and its fixed. I just get accustomed to these things and it doesn't bother me =P.

i had those 3 "bugs/issues", but about the "cut-off voices", it only happened while i was playing the game with HDLoader.

And yes, i got those "pauses" while playing off the DVD, but a lot less noticeable while you play the game from the HDD.

but still it bugs me to always put the language back in Japanese because it doesn't actually include this setting in my savegame preferences...(it always gets saved in Disgaea, La Pucelle, Phantom Brave...)

Part buyer beware sense and part trying to unearth what else is wrong with the game.

This needed more playtesting and proofreading. There is a difference between nitpicking and not voluntarily overlooking glaring errors. I do not feel that this product meets my expectations of its quality.

I mean come on, at least consistently capitalize or leave in lowercase, the "reviews", check them to make sure the text doesnt spill over the window borders etc.

The game feels like it's a translation work in progress, not a finished product.

I plan on importing the game if i can return my US copy (should the store clerk be understanding enough) The Gust best collection is only gonna be 35$ when it comes out in august. The game itself is great, but the presentation is so sloppy i am offended to have purchased such work.

This is a damn shame, but i cannot support sloppy work. I hope for the sake of those who are interested that that Phantom kingdom does not share the fate that this game unfortunately had. Better luck next time Nippon Ichi.

Urgh.. Thanks so much pancakesandsex for saving me $50. I was going to get this, but hearing all these problems has made me change my mind. I am definitely going to try and find a online store to import this.

Just curious, but to everyone claiming that they will just import the game instead: which version are you importing? I assume the Japanese version doesn't have english text or anything and I can't think of any easily accesible versions.

ya know maybe the JPN version also had bugs?

Unless you can read fully japanese you might as well buy this version you you can fully get the story and everything.
