The problem with this, is a constant comparison to Disgaea.
This isn't Disgaea, it isn't Disgaea 2, it wasn't billed as a sequel... Its a completely different game. Notice the lack of mentioning any of the really interesting changes? Vehicles, or the wishing system.
Its pretty obvious that the guy didn't complete a lot of the after quests also. He talks about a lack of story, but if you look at the details added in as a retrospective on Makai Kingdom (After the second or third time beating it)you get a deeper view of the story.
He complains about the throwing/movement grid. Its basically Phantom Brave with a twist, if you played Phantom Brave, you can adapt quickly. Its unfortunate that he's ripping it like this because its not A Disgaea Clone.
I actually enjoy that NIS doesn't just clone Disgaea into an infinite loop of games and try things differently. If you don't try different things, you become like those Dynasty Warrior games and produce basically 200 Games that are the exact same with different names.
::chuckles:: Ah well, everyone will enjoy different parts of different games. If you always want Disgaea... Go play Disgaea and wait for the sequel. You want some variety in the way games are played, play other games. Its pretty simple.

Yeah, I'm always really annoyed with guys like that. Every NIS game is compared to Disgaea, just like how Final Fantasies are practically all held against VII. Relying overly on comparisons is not the way to properly present a review.
Like when I was asked "Which NIS Game should I buy?" I answered with an objective overview of all of the games, downplayed the Disgaea comparisons except to explain that La Pucelle came first and thus its quirks were utilized to create some of the ones in Disgaea, and let the person decide for himself/herself which they were interested in.

Very intelligent and logical way to approach it Teefa. I applaud you and wish there were more like you. ::laughs::
Seriously though people, come on. Disgaea was one game title from a corporation. Its not the first in a series..
Yes, FFVII was the first on the Playstation, but it was not the first with a revolutionary storyline. (The one with the espers had a pretty amazing storyline as well. It was one of the first steps in the RPG world away from the over-all happygolucky RPG that I remember playing. I mean almost at the same time, Earthbound came out, and a few other RPG's that... Lets face it. Were very chibi.)
You know why people tout FFVII? Graphics. Plain and simple. We were wow'd by what the playstation could do. We were amazed that we could have a 3D Final Fantasy and everyone became amazingly endeared to it. Ah well... Most people can't play an FF game without comparing it to the other games. Its like seeing a movie and comparing it to the book. Or watching a remake and comparing it to the remake. If you do that, of course you're going to be disappointed with one or the other... It is the crappy truth.
Blah, lets all just promise to actually play the game, for the game and not any other game. Please? I'm on my knee's here, Well no, I'm on my recliner drinking some Pepsi... but, the metaphor still stands.

See, I read it because I wanted to figure out if the guy had any reasonable arugements. Unfortunately he didn't.
Personally, I always listen to the Japanese version, its why its there. La Pucelle is the one that I LOVED in English, but thats because I am an Otaku (Obsessed Fan) for the woman who does Prier in English ::grins:: Sheena in ToS and a bunch of other games. I love her, I would ask her to have my children and fall at her feet for worship and love.

Disapointing
Like I mentioned before, when I read this, it disgusted me. When I went through this review again, I noticed he kept comparing things to Disgaea. Almost as though he was trying to avoid the point. He continued to say things like "not as good as Disgaea", or "Disgaea was better". This wasn't a review, it was just insults to Makai Kingdom.

To me, the voices don't matter. They leave 'em in Japanese for a reason; for the fans who either prefer subtitled anime or just find they don't like the voices.

I've also mentioned that I painfully agreed with some of the things...*punches himself in the stomach* I think that the voice acting is *points gun to his head* .....HORRIBLE! *pulls trigger* X_X
