Re: CAN YOU BELIEVE THIS GUY!!!!
It’s seems to be very obvious (well to me at least) that this can only be considered as some kind of joke Review, if you can call it even a “Review” that is.
That’s how I feel at least.
Oh and I thought the English VA was GREAT!!! (no Idea what this guy was talking about, he must have played a different game or something, ah no matter...

English Voice Acting can be incredibly good. Look at Digital Devil Saga for example. I cannot imagine *that* game in Japanese. I also prefered Kingdom hearts in English.
I agree.
DDS1 as well as DDS2 has one of the best English VA out there IMO. Ironically enough many of the same English VAs can also be found (heard) in Makai Kingdom, Phantom Brave and/or Disgaea.
Another recent example of Great English VA would be: "Castlevania: Curse of Darkness", I think it's actually of the best ones I've ever heard...

Re: CAN YOU BELIEVE THIS GUY!!!!
I can believe him. Well, some of him. Constantly comparing it to Disgaea is blah, and making a big deal out of bad voice acting is dumb.
However. (My own thoughts).
The storyline and character interactions bored me. I really didn't care about any of the characters. Nothing happened in the story until the last two episodes; it was all just foreboding.
The character development system was simplistic, considering what they have done in the past. The item development system is NON-EXISTENT. After Phantom Brave and Disgaea that is a major dissapointment. Items in Makai are all about really high numbers.
The game was largely unchallenging. Even when enemies had 20+ levels on you they could be one or two-shot (I did no powerleveling or money farming). I think I lost two battles in the whole game. Half of the maps were just random enemies given random and extremely weak weapons, that would then die on your first turn; which in itself is a major step downward from Phantom Brave's speed-based turn system (reminescent of the pinnacle of the genre–Final Fantasy Tactics).
Vehicles and facilities were interesting, but not really that detailed. Vehicles are just tougher-than-normal units than require a pilot, and facilities are just little bonuses for your characters.
There was a complete lack of strategy to fights, I felt more like I was doing math problems. "Will this guy be able to one-shot this enemy or should I use this guy? Can I Kill all of these with one attack?" without Phantom Brave's confine and turn system, or the grid system in Disgaea, skill and thinking are replaced by high attack numbers.
The strategy test of a SRPG: you lose a fight, but go back and try again. Maybe you lose two or three more times, but you eventually finish the map without powerleveling or buying new equipment.
All-in-all, I was dissapointed. But I realize this is because Makai was a filler game between Phantom Brave and whatever next stroke of genius they think up.

Re: CAN YOU BELIEVE THIS GUY!!!!
The thing I noticed about this review is that he mentions that there are no playable main characters. He obviously didn't know that there are--they just have to be unlocked. This game has a lot of unlockable characters including guest appearances. You can tell he also never played Phantom Brave because he acts like this gridless battlefield is new. Only difference between MK and PB is that MK's gridless battlefields relieves you of the worry of your characters possibly sliding off of the battlefield.

Re: CAN YOU BELIEVE THIS GUY!!!!
This guy's review would've been definite if he wouldn't have had so much comparison to Disgaea and his ignorance to the features it had. Don't get me wrong, I love MK; it's just that MK did have it's flaws.

Re: CAN YOU BELIEVE THIS GUY!!!!
heh.. NIS do normally have pretty bad voiceovers..
this game's voice acting was so hilariously good, i left it on english for my second playthrough.
clearly, the reviewer was not playing the game like he was supposed to.
