Now I don't know what to feel. I don't think it's a remake because the story sounds different (Something about prinnies wanting to become Overlords?) but the dated art throws me off. What do you guys think?

I see myself booting up an ADV game, dated art or not, more often than pulling out Disgaea SRPG and starting over from scratch. New art would've been cool, though. Was Harada busy on the other title while this was in development?

Yes, it really seems confirmed that it is a ADV game. And this kinda troubles me. These games almost never get translated... NISA localized every single Disgaea game, and they will probably localize this too, but I can't help being worried.

Does ADV stand for something? Is it a lazy way to say adventure?

That's what I thought!

I would understand if it was written as Adv.

Here I was, thinking about what "ADV" would stand for.
"Anime Disc...Video? That doesn't even make sense!" >.<

ADV, ACT, RPG, RTS, FPS, RCG, FTG, STG are all acronyms for various different genres... ADVenture, ACTion, Role Playing Game, Real Time Strategy, First Person Shooter, RaCinG, FighTinG, ShooTinG...

This is pretty common in Japan. ^_^

STG stands for the old-style 2D scrolling shooting games, like Space Invaders, Castle of Shikigami, Gunbird, and stuff like that. You know, those arcade games with bonuses and never-ending storms of enemies...
Those games and Halos or Resitences have almost nothing in common.

Most of those aren't acronyms, which is why most of us have no problems with RPG, RTS, and FPS, but the rest of those just look like someone pulled them out of the sky.

Anyway, that really wasn't the point of my post, I'm just wondering what they really mean by an adventure game. As most of us know, the older gameplay styles tend to differ a bit between western and Japanese games, and I'm just wondering if Japanese adventure games are different from western adventure games, and there are also different styles of adventure games in the west (not to mention that a lot of what are now called action RPGs used to be called action-adventure games).

I thought you were from...pfff...Europe.

:p

I knew the Japanese were ripping off our words, but I didn't know they were ripping off our words to rip the letters out of them so that they could just make stuff up!
