''Idea Factory today announced its third PlayStation Portable project, Edith Memories: Shinten Makai Generation of Chaos V. Compared to the PlayStation 2 release, the game's PlayStation Portable version will allow players to select their starting point at the beginning of the game. Originally, players were forced to start playing in the Underworld. In addition, five characters from Generation of Chaos IV will be added to the cast of the PlayStation Portable version.
Edith Memories: Shinten Makai Generation of Chaos V for PlayStation Portable will be available in Japan sometime in May for 4,800 yen ($40.77 US).''

A newbie's first impression of "Generation of Chaos" for PSP
I've only played this game for the PSP, quite recently actually, and my initial impression of it was pretty bad. A majority of the text (particularly in the opening credits sequence) looks all scrawny and jagged. It's as if it was directly ported to the PSP without any consideration to its appearance on a completely different display/system.
As a newcomer to Generation of Chaos, I don't know much about the story. So when first starting a new game, I'm forced to sit through a lengthy string of boring scene changes and empty dialogue with credit text sprinkled in intermittently. Most of what's said doesn't mean much to me, nor does any of it seem to be revelating enough for me to even start getting into the "story". In the end, all that dialogue can be summed up to everybody is invading someone, and one leader just got backstabbed due to political changes in another place.
Then I had no idea what I was really doing when I picked three different characters. And at the start of playing the um... kingdom labeled for beginners, in the dialogue one of my guys says they're going to show me how to fight because I might've forgotten. Great! But then they don't teach me anything at all and now I'm left at the grid map without an inkling of where to start. Nobody helpfully chiming in with hints of any kind, or basic beginning tutorials especially when I'm playing a campaign meant for beginners... It'd be nice if there was a button that'll pop up some contexual help/descriptions. Seeing all those buttons labeled only by acronyms almost made me quit playing right then and there. But I was determined to figure this game out, so I winged it a bit. Cluelessly moved some units around, then I somehow ended up in a battle where I got slaughtered. Game Over. Well, dang..
So that was the first 30-40 min of the game hehe. At least there was voice acting for the dialogue, I thought! After reading the entire mini-guide and cliff noting the game manual (that's not printed in color!) I'm feeling ready to try and tackle this game one more time. The whole interface and gameplay mechanics needs some getting used to, but all the studying I did sparked a hope of finding enjoyment in the game's subtle complexities. Plus, someone got me the game, so it'd be a waste not to try and like something you own... dammit. :P

Re: Idea Factory Announces Generation of Chaos V for PSP
I really cant figure out why ppl are having such a hard time with the menu's.. the acronims are pretty clear imo. But then again, i did play dragon force before (old game comparable with GoC if you dont know it). Though i do agree on the story part.. it could've been better.. but I guess it isnt that easy to write a story about a giant world war ^^ But the characters are awesome and the gameplay is really good imo.

I hope that's not a big deal for you. Out of the four PSP games I own, only Grand Theft Auto's manual is in color. It's not very common to have them printed in full color.

Still holding my breath for the other Marl Kingdom games.
