This game broke my heart

This game is lousy... I hate to say it but this was not a good game. The main character Felt brought this game to the ground. This game tried to get me to care about the story line but Felt was so uninterested that I couldn't find any enjoyment out of it. He loves stating the obvious, he can't put two and two together and he didn't develop like he was supposed to. He loves having flashbacks about things he can't remember and when you can't remember something, there's no flashback. He loves to get in other people's business. He just can't stay out of it. They said in the instruction manual Gray did that. Felt was such a meager character that he had to take away from the other characters to give himself importance.

Why the hell is Viese his love interest? She seems like his mom. Felt goes through all this stuff and then meets up with Viese just to hide behind her like a child would their mother. The letters he sent her sound like, "I'm going to war, wish you were here." He sounded like he was having a good time. She tries to keep out of the spot light but Felt never walks in front of her. I had more fun being Viese running around Eden, than I had with Felt and Felt has fighting. This happened for a number of reasons: First Viese wasn't dumbfounded like her partner and second SHE ACTUALLY CARED! Viese should have been the stand alone main character and was called Atelier Viese. I would touch the storyline, but I'm going to let you all see it first. This game gives the shortest animated cut scenes ever. They were so shhort that I questioned why they were put here to begin with, this resulted in the most unforgiving and unrewarding ending.

I haven't touched the game play yet. This games battles looks like a constant sugar rush, most of the time it looks like cardboard cut outs sliding toward the enemies. What's the rush!? We aren't going anywhere! The skill gauge was a worthless excuse for strategy; I don't even have to touch that anymore. Fee is useless! Completely useless, I tried so hard to make her useful in a boss fight but she never lasts past the second enemy attack. When she gets knocked unconscious reviving her makes me feel like I voted for the Green Party. I beat the game at level 32. Didn't get any of the good items I was supposed to. My brother picked up the game for the first time and beat the final boss and did it before I could! He told me he was glad I didn't find the heal bulbs because it would've been a piece of cake. This game was over in 22 hours even though I played around in the monster's list and weapons.

What the hell is sound element!? Where does it come from!? Why are they giving me this!? What do you use it for!?

The music... What the hell is this!? That's the question I was asking myself when they changed the first fight song. The really good boss song was from Atelier Iris. No wait I went too far. There were some good songs. Chaos, Galahad, and the normal boss songs was good, any other boss song's wasn't even worth listening too. The best songs are in Eden. The ending song is good, so why in hell did they give me a remix in my bonus disc?!

NIS has always delivered good games but I never expected trash like this to touch my console.

I liked what I've played so far. My only concern so far is that the game doesn't have bonus features like the original did. Beyond that I think its a pretty good game.

I personally think that Atelier Iris 2 is a fairly okay game, but yes, its pretty bland compared to the first game. First of all, yes this game is so easy, as long as you mess around with your alchemy a bit, it's freaking easy to do over 100 combos. Second, when I say this game is easy, it always states the obvious. There's too many tutorials that tell us about things that we can easily learn ourselves, not to mention those npcs that gives you hints about where treasures are aren't necessary since you have the Pendelum (which shows EVERY treasure box location).

This game has one of the most cliched stories ever. I don't really care about any of the characters besides Vieze and that's only because she's cute and not an idiot. It's too bad Vieze and Felt didn't have more love in the story, even in the Japanese version I think it's just as bland. And yes, Zyne, I seriously was disappointed about the mana in this game. First of all, why did they make a sound mana and aroma mana? Things like Water, and Life are necessary, but these two... just... why were they created?

NIS did a good job changing the subtitle to "Azoth of Destiny" from "Eternal Mana". This game doesn't have much to do with the mana even if Felt is journeying to save it. Their role is so small, it's just sad... It's not that this game is horrible, it's that it's not an RPG that you'll remember as well as something great as the first game. Some people are saying Ar Tonelico will come out in October, so... look forward to that. It's an awesome game that IMO rivals Atelier Iris 1 all the way emoticon

You know what MilfieSakuraba
... You're absolutelly right. I'll try to get over this and look forward to Ar Tonelico. I just won't be buying the 3rd Atielier Iris until I get some info.

I was just hurt that they came up with this game after the first one was so well thought out. The mana even had voice acting in the first one

If you're looking for any information about Grand Fantasm, I have an LJ community dedicated to the Atelier series. I made a post here a while ago about a few things:

http://community.livejournal.com/atelier_gust/2998.html

Within about a week or so (if I'm not exp grinding from a certain MMORPG named FFXI ^^; ) I'm going to post more information. A little about the story and some info about the characters. Also, I'm going to be buying the game right when it comes out in Japan so I'll definetely be posting a review about the game.

Ar Tonelico is great. I like Atelier Iris for the alchemy and gameplay more, but Ar Tonelico has a better character development. Of course, Ar Tonelico has an alchemy system too called Grassmelk but it's not quite as fun as Atelier. Although I must say, having the option for the girls to name the alchemy item to what they like is very amusing^^

Frankly every game is a little different from each other, and Iris 3 is no exception (according to this). I like both 1 and 2 as they each have their own charm. I do like the 2nd one more, however, 'cause I'm not too fond of the really old blind battle system (ie. I'm more partial to the bar with the knockback--very Grandia--though it makes a game kind of easy, it helps a lot to plan your attacks). I mean, here I am at level 40+ in AI1 and I'm still getting my arse kicked. But there's more item experimenting in the first one, which I kind of enjoy since I like doing that stuff.

My AI2 team consisted mainly of Felt, Fee, and Grey. I really only switched some out when I needed to beat some magic creatures. The only thing I hated about AI2 was my game crashing a few times (once when I switched between Viese and Felt, and a few times during events). I guess that's why there were so many save spots.

But to each his own, really. I've clocked in at 40 hours or so on AI2 'cause I went through everything with a fine-toothed comb. I really love the 2D billboard look and love the inserted animated cutscenes (always a sucker for those! yay Tales games!). Though not to insult anyone that may have had a part in it, but I have to say the English voices (and the translated text...) kills some characters and some of the events. I found a lot of the context just totally off with what was actually being said (in both games). Thankfully the Japanese option was there. And uh...Viese and Felt are more brother and sister than love insterests... Frankly, Felt doesn't really seem interested in anyone and seems more like Klein on that matter, where all the girls are vying for him while he's absolutely clueless in the quintessential anime way.

Yes AI2 is full of clichés but then again it's hard to find any jRPGs these days that really aren't =P I'll say one thing that I really really really really love about Gust games other than keeping 2D alive...MUSIC! \o/ I love the chanting! And some of the tones remind me of peruvian music. Very cool, very nice.

I guess I'm more for the challenge. There's no fun in a RPG for me when they make it too easy (also the reason I didn't like Wild Arms 2). There's fun and no challenge when the game is easy. If you can beat a RPG that can kick your butt than you know there was something good in those fights. Still the skill gague system was wweak. All it does is restrict. I found no battles in this game enjoyable for this reason. Then I found the special dungeon's and they use is cheap tactics. That sucks when a enemy has to heal 999 Hp every time they move just to beat you.

My brother and I was talking about the same thing. The 3rd Atelier Iris was going to be something great while this one pushes you back and forth.

As much as I hate to compare this to the first Atelier Iris, this is a sequel and I can't help it.

That story line needed something else. I personally think it needed someone who would hit Felt for the things he say and do. Something's you just shouldn't get away with. Still that ending was unrewarding.

Grand Fantasm, if you didn't notice, has a similiar style to that of Ar Tonelico. Anything using that battle system is going to be a great game.... assuming that the game itself has a great plot.. Anyway, yeah, Atelier Iris 2 was kinda sad compared to the first one. I still liked it because it occupied me for quite some time instead of ranting on internet boards like this like I would usually do.
______

Oh, and wikipedia(I don't trust what they say most of the time) said that Iris in Eternal Mana was the last survivor of Eden. Does that mean somewhere in between Grand Fantasm and AoD everyone on Eden died? Just a thought.

Although I'm around 10 hours in AI2 (had to finish KH2 first), I'm really liking the game thus far. For the most part, I did prefer Eternal Mana, mostly because of its world map and characters. I do prefer the battles in AI2 better, along with the synthesizing, and being able to carry 99 of each item, since I didn't like being limited before. Personally, I still love the story in AI2, although it doesn't have as much appeal to me as Eternal Mana. Personally, I absolutely love both games, and can't wait to get both Grand Fantasm and Ar Tonelico.emoticon
