Okay, I'm going to sound like an idiot here, but running off the memory stick? Do you do that by having a lot of space on the stick or is modding involved?

If I remember correctly, you need an early version of PSP firmware (1.5 perhaps) to do it. It's a nice feature, and I would probably be doing it all the time, if it weren't for the fact that my firmware is at 2.6...

And yes, depending on the game, there'd be quite a bit of space needed to copy the whole game to your memory stick.

You can easily downgrade 2.6 and even 2.71 firmware with very little risc of bricking your PSP, though. And there are plenty of ripped iso's so you can basicly put any PSP game on a 1gb mem stick. Hardly any of em are worth it though XD

do NOT downgrade with a SanDisk memory sticks!! They arn't made the same as the memory sticks with the "PSP" across the memory stick (like the 32 mb one that come with the PSP). It will brake the memory stick (sadly this happend to me emoticon).

All I can say to this is...

This is Idea Factory we're talking about. Yeah, and this coming from the guy who had the guts to get Chaos Wars. 8D

Wish i could play it off the Memory Stick. =\

Anyway, despite hearing about the loading times, i got the game anyway. They were way worse than i had expected, i have to admit... but the game is in no way unplayable by any means. There are ways to getting the game to run faster. Learn to check game options.

This game is amazing, i can't stop playing it. If you're that turned off by load times to toss this amazing of a game, maybe you should try a different game genre? I mean, turn-based strategy games are pretty slow overall.

Anyway, a few tips for getting the game to run faster off the CD:

Turn Sound to Mono, turn Effects and Move Off. The Sound in Mono (at least to me) isn't noticeably different, and it does speed the game up some. The Effects and Movement speeds the game up a whole lot, but of course it removes the attack animations and such, which can make battles somewhat boring. To me though, after seeing the animations a few times, i really want to get into building up characters, so speedy battles is a good thing.

If you don't want to turn Effects off and keep the cool animations, note that zooming the game to 100% (pushing up on the analog stick a few times for a full close-up) makes the battles run with pretty much no slowdown, and the menu selections go like clockwork. It's like playing the game it was supposed to be played. Zooming way out makes the game run slower and slower the further you zoom out.

Anyway, hope that helps a bit. You shouldn't ignore this game, it's way too good. I can only hope and pray that NIS will port their PSP titles to some other console as well, so I can better experience them. Either that, or hopefully someone will make a decent PSP emulator one of these days.

For those who have played any of the Generation of Chaos games, how do they compare to Spectral Souls? Review-wise, it seemed like SS got better reviews, but once i've finished SS, i'm undoubtedly going to want to play something new, and the character designs for GOC look awesome.

I have enjoyed all 3 of NISA's Idea Factory titles. The GoC series has completely different gameplay than SS though, so it is a little like comparing Disgaea to Madden. The best description for GoC is probably a "fleshed out" Dragon Force. If you liked Dragon Force then you should like GoC.

GoC has lower difficulty than SS because in GoC you can control the environment (time of day, etc) to give yourself an advantage. A commander using vampires (HUGE boost at night) and with the ability (or item) to change the time to night is quite powerful.

The balance is not quite as good as SS. In GoC, some troop/general types are far better than others. The balance improves a little from GoC to Aedis Eclipse since troops can immediately retaliate when hit.

If you have played Koei's RTK series, Dragon Force, etc then you should be ok after an hour of play. If you have not, then you might consider playing the lower world campaign in Aedis Eclipse to tutor you in the gameplay. GoC has Gena's campaign as the "beginner" one but the other (Alex?) has more instuction. The tradeoff is that Gena's campaign has fewer enemy nations on the map at a time, particulaly when you first start.

The Topic Creator is a fool. This game is not unplayable, nor is it bad. It is, in fact, one of the better games on the PSP of its genre. Also, taking into account the age of the game, that is, 2006 on the PSP and 2005 for the PS2. The PSP version was released back when every PSP game had loading time issues.

Spectral Souls has a great battle system, a great story, a great history, a great cast of characters, and a wide variety of possible paths the story can take. Yes, the loading times are abysmal, but they don't completely ruin the game, and on a PSP Slim, they are reduced quite noticeably.
