Picked mine up yesterday afternoon. Didn't pre-order or anything, so I ended up getting the last copy in the area (I checked 3 other stores). Still shrink-wrapped; gotta finish up two more books in Odin Sphere then I'll be moving on to Atelier Iris 3.

I like the simplistic box art design.

First impressions:

Well, so I finally stuck this into my PS2.

Dungeon designs are the most innovative they've been in the series, and battles are the most purposeful and strategic they've been in the series, as well. For one thing, enemies are more difficult, but they do provide a good amount of spoils (EXP and money) for your efforts; why, even Puni take about two or so hits to defeat at first! And that really makes you WANT to get your levels up!

A few small gripes, though.

Mostly, the character sprites: they look nothing like their anime counterparts. Iris's in-game sprite looks almost Japanese, which isn't a problem, but her anime sprite is destinctively Caucasian.

As for Edge, they can't seem to decide whether he has brown or red hair. His anime sprite has clearly brown hair, but his in-game sprite, as well as victory image (his character concept model) clearly have red hair.

Then, in the case of anime sprites who have their mouths open in glee, their open mouth/tongue has two tone colors to it; like they couldn't decide how much they really wanted to make their mouths look open, and sort of shaded over the bottom part of their mouth, but failed at coloring the same tone as the rest of their face (anyone else notice this?)

Then there's the voice-overs. In English, the same guy who did Radolf does Edge. And he does it with the same refined, prude voice he did Radolf. Edge is supposed to be friggin' badass. He needs to have a younger, yet rougher voice.

Otherwise, it really is just a fun game to actually PLAY, as opposed to say, "watch" or "experience" or "look at" or "listen to." (Whoa, hey, don't get me wrong, the music's good, but I still like AI2's music the best out of the three AI games).

...

Oh yeah, one more nuisance: the complete unnecessariness of the time limits in the Alterworlds. Yeesh.

I picked up mine several days ago and now I already finished the game. The ending is similar to ar tonelico ending phase 2, when shurelia sacrificed herself. but in this game, Iris sacrificed herself. It's a great game but the times at alterworld are very disturbing.

I don't like the main character. he is neither scary or funny. I like Ash F Absenstein, you know, the world strongest raider, and Crowley. Ash have a misterious personality and has a great skills and strength. Crowley is weak but his word make me surprised...

I pre-ordered it and picked it up the day it came out, been playing it since then only have one last quest to take care of(The Last Hero) and I'll be done.

Good stuff though still wish some other characters were playable especially Ash and Meyna. Ah well can't wait until I can go pick up my pre-order of Grimgrimoire later this month.

Secret of Mana and Seiken Densetsu 3 are both great games, but i feel like they are simply destroying their sequels...like saying the Final Fantasy series changed for the worst. The last FF i liked are FF9, then FF7, then FF6...

now peoples buy the FF games only for the graphics, that's pretty dumb if you ask me.

They do? That's a pretty loaded statement. Most of the FFs are pretty well-designed, which is probably why its the most popular RPG franchise internationally.

Well, that and the fact that Squenix knows how to best whore the name out to rake in profits.

Just because a game looks really nice doesn't mean it has to suck hard. I mean, you say you liked FFIX ... There haven't really been that many installments of FF past IX, so I'm confused as to what you're trying to say.

I didn't like 9 at all. Couldn't force myself to beat the first disc.

Got this into my PS2.

A refreshing change of pace from the harder games I've been playing (I'm looking at YOU, Etrian Odyssey!)
