The good/bad of this game
Personally, I felt the the alchemy was more underplayed than in the past two games. While I understand the Iris series emphasises more on RPG than item creation, that aspect was kind of underwhelming.
I rather liked the quest system, but it kind of annoyed me that the story missions would cut in while I was in the middle of getting something.
Having only three characters is both a blessing and a curse. There is no need to decide what character you want to bring at a paticular time, and and you can spend more time developing those characters, but there is a general lack of variety. Changing blades does make up for that, though.
On the topic of changing blades, I kind of wish that there were a way to change blades during battle. Or at least a way to change weapons. There has been at least one boss fight where it was immune to all my attacks, I had to lose and come back after learning its weakness.

Re: The good/bad of this game
So, Edge, Iris, and Nell are the only characters that ever comprise your party? :/

Re: The good/bad of this game
I liked AI3. To me, it feels like all 3 AI games are separate entities rather than a total XCOPY of everything.
AI1 had the most emphasis on alchemy.
AI2 had a balance between alchemy and RPG elements.
AI3 felt the most like your standard RPG (even going so far as semi-dungeon crawling).
All in all, I liked the character selection. I really don't see how you would be able to incorporate more than those three considering that they all reside in the same small town. In the first games I could understand since your journey is a bit more 'epic', but with only three characters I appreciate the blades system in order to get some more variety in the character classes. I just wish that Iris had a handful of blades, or at least would have been able to change in SOME fashion (Shurelia from Ar Tonelico comes to mind).

Re: The good/bad of this game
I'll agree, I like AI3 alot, too, but I heard from someone that you could get Yula, Alvero, and Ash to join your party. :/
I think it's kind of cute how Nell's ribbon resembles bunny ears, and they play that up even more in her Bunny Mage Nymph and Siren costumes, but when they finally got down to her Faustus costume, that was just really...ehh.
I notice how they don't have all of the Mana spirits from the previous games, especially the more primary ones, like Uru (Fire) and Silwest (Wind). Surprising, that.

Re: The good/bad of this game
Good things: Normal difficulty games (not like Ar tonelico which is way to easy) and nice costume change when it's come to the blades change. ( Thanatos comes to mind, god, I like that costume) and also with only simple 2 endings.
Bad Things: Some boss are bad@$$ because they are hard to defeat ( like the mana of time and Hell's pran pfeil) and way too simple story line for the normal ending ( not the True ending)

Re: The good/bad of this game
Good: The new Quest system and Alchemy
Bad: Only three Characters, blah story, a bit too easy(except for two bosses), no re-playability.

Re: The good/bad of this game
It is almost misleading to say there are only 3 characters. Many of the people in town have a backstory that gets fleshed out as you complete quests for them. The characters you control also get a few different blades. Each of the blades seems (to me anyway) like a different character in combat. Edge as a ninja has very different moves, stats and use than Edge as an axe wielding maniac.

Re: The good/bad of this game
Too bad that the Blades are self-defeating; if anything, they only serve to make the game more challenging.
I tried using all of Edge's other Blades, but I could only end up defeating the final boss using his Normal Blades. I did use Nell's Nymph Blades to trip her out as a mage, though, but that's about it.
Most of the other Blades were completely useless, ESPECIALLY Edge's Jiptus/Venom/Axe-Wielding Blades.

Re: The good/bad of this game
I thought the final boss was easy. I smacked it all over the battle field using Plua & Siren Blades. I don't know why people have so much trouble with that boss... I found Palaxius w/o the 'godly alchemy' in use and Amaglam (in Eternal Mana) to be much more difficult.
About the blades. I agree that Jiptus is pretty much useless on account of its pathetic speed stat...not much help against bosses. I think that Faustus is cruddy too, except for situational stuff. On the other hand, Plua and Luplus are extremely useful when using Nell & Iris as spell casting machines. I stopped using normal blades as soon as I got something to replace them with.
