Any word on the Japanese release date (and possibly the U.S. one as well)?

No word on a U.S. release; the Japan release was pushed back to August 28th.

If I had to take a wild, unfounded guess then yes. NISA has confirmed that they are doing it, they just haven't said when. Since it seems like Ar Tonelico 2 is heading for a December release (and will consume a good amount of the studio's resources before that time), I would imagine that Mana Khemia PSP would be slotted for release some time in Q1 2009.

NISA stated before they would release it in September, but that was some time ago.
Amazon.com show its release date as "October 28th".

Oct. would be great for the U.S. release...i just hope the game does well in Japan (i'm assuming it will considering the PSP is selling like crazy).

january? I was told at EB games that the release was march now.
Kinda bugs me that i preordered the game when it was first announced too. Oops.

Will the names be the same as the Ps2 version or are they going to be changed to what it's supposed to be? (Mainly Philomel and Gunnar, the others I don't really mind... Also, Theofratus = Theophrastes?)

I really hate posting this here, but it's a valid argument/opinion. To update, yes this is now available on the PSP.
Keep playing it on the PS2, I purchased it on the PSP and will keep it, but the load times are absolutely atrocious. Even with Jump Start, if you so much as move to another screen it loads. Unacceptable, I love you NIS, but wow.
