With the performance of DisgaeaDS, I won't be buying any DS ports from NISA until I've seen plenty of reviews. I don't really see how so many people can claim to enjoy that version of the game.

Yes, Disgaea DS did perform rather sluggishly. I personally wasn't able to enjoy it (but it's okay. I already put too many hours into the original, and I mean original, PS2 version) because of the speed. Since I play Disgaea 3 at a blistering pace with so many actions per second I couldn't bear seeing my DS struggle with its low processing power.
All good and fine, though, as I bought the bundle with Rhapsody DS, and enjoyed it as I had zero expectations of the game whatsoever. emoticon

I switched between Disgaea 3 and Disgaea DS frequently and didn't really have a problem. Even if it did run a little slower, my main issue was with how slow EVERYTHING is in D1 (regardless of platform). Taking over an hour to get to Lv. 9999 just doesn't cut it anymore when you can do it in 30 seconds in D3.

And, if you're going to play D1 (again), I say the additions of 4 new characters, Prinny Commentary and the mini-map put it above the PSP version (and both are far above the PS2 version). Should it have been on a bigger DS card? Absolutely. Is it still enjoyable? Sure is.

A bigger DS card wouldn't have helped. The game was absolutely sluggish. It doesn't matter what they added over the PSP version, Afternoon of Darkness was far superior for the fact that it was playable at full speed.

Well, I disagree. I'll take an almost imperceptible performance hit in exchange for a bunch of new content.

A subjective statement.
I can't notice input lag differences from a CRT TV (little or none) and a large LCD HDTV (lots), but a (tournament-quality fighting gamer) friend of mine can't bear the lag from the latter, and his precise timing on combos gets screwed up. He's honed his reactions that well.

It's cool that you don't notice (good for you, and I'm being sincere) but for me it was too much in Disgaea DS, since I play Disgaea like the Koreans play Starcraft (maybe an extreme example :P). Any delay, even for a quarter second, is noticeable and ruins my playing style. Playing at an overall slower speed worsens things.

I mean, Disgaea is basically a game of "how powerful can you get your characters". It's frustrating when something like the performance impedes my path to power ('tis why my PC is high performance for competitive purposes).

It's okay, though. I mainly got Disgaea DS for Pleinair, and she's in D3, anyway.
