My friend wrote to NIS America a few days ago and got the following e-mail:
Thanks for writing in and supporting our games! We currently have the following Disgaea 3 content scheduled for release on May 7: Gig (playable), Revya (playable), Raspberyl Chapters 1-4, a Gig theme, and a Raspberyl/Sapphire theme.
As for the game trophies, we are currently working on a North American release for them, but right now we don’t have any set release date. So keep checking back on our official website and reading our newsletter for more info on our latest releases! Thank you again for your support.

I can't give a for sure answer but I'm guessing that NISA is more working on the Cross Edge trophies so that Cross Edge can arrive on May 26th and not be delayed for the 3rd time. Also, NISA has been busy trying to release all of the dlc characters that are available in the Japanese PSN store and trying to catch up and then we get the Disgaea 3 trophies.

Hey guys, I have an imported copy of D3 and decided to pop it in and unlock some trophies. I had to start a new game for the trophies to unlock. I really hope the US updated is changed to allow us to use our current save data because I dont want to put ANOTHER 200 hours into this game when I shouldn't have to  .

Sorry, I replied in the wrong thread. That's what a newb gets I guess. 
Anyways, trophies are coming to the US on or around July 16th. Unfortunately, we will all have to start a new game to get the trophies. Your other saves will still play, just without the ability to get trophies.
I learned this at Anime Expo on Sunday at the NIS America booth. Supposedly there is a press release going out some time today about them.

Are you sure about the new game? There was something similar reported for the JP trophy patch. Turns out all you had to do was update the game and then load and save your old record and it worked just fine.
